In case anyone is interested in the insurance value of a 1995 BMW 540 manual with 375,000 miles in fair condition I just received the settlement offer; Actual cash value: $1,579
Less deductible: -300 Total: $1,279. If you can and your Bimmer is in very good condition look into some optional coverage that takes into account the real value particularly if you get hit by an uninsured motorist as was my misfortune.
in mid 2012 another '95 540/6 I owned was totaled and I was given $4,600 for it with about 175,000 miles in Good condition.
I'm going to try and argue if they are using a few rust spots to call it fair condition that I was about to swap out the trunk and a couple of doors from my other laid up 540 and other than the milage the car was performing as good or better than new with the few alterations like Koni adjustables all around on H&R springs all new front end arms other than uppers which had powerflex bushings. All new AC system.
*UPDATE*
The Ins Co tells me they determined the "actual cash value" from some company that sampled 30 examples on the car recently sold.
I could not get from them where this sample was found.
If you recently sold an e34 540/6 I'd welcome hearing the sale price.
With receipts for the past year they may also increase this settlement so going to be looking into that.

How much do they want for the car?
I actually didn't get that. I will check Monday. When I got the payment figure that low I lost interest in the wreck. I have nowhere to part it myself . The one place I was told I could bring it would only be for two or three weeks then it would have to be removed and there's no lift there. I don't want to drop a tranny under a car on jack stands. That and and four year old fuel tank would be what I'd want most .. has a good black passenger sport seat but the driver seat has a broken cross support , eroded upper left bolster and whatever else I also have nowhere to keep parts if I were to get to dismantle it. but I'll update with their price.

I'm not sure if there is anything that looks better than new valve cover
Got plugs, boots, gasket/cover and some breether hoses replaced. Car runs great (as it did before). But now I can't drive it too much because AC does not work. I guess E34 is nice because there is always "something else". My goal is to complete this "list". I have only 2-3 items left.

Got around to painting the lower parts of the car.
Car gone off to the tuner yesterday to have the fuel map cleaned up. There’s probably 30-50hp left in it under the curve that hopefully will be found. Also wiring in a failsafe gauge with , air fuel, boost, and ethanol content. The beauty of this is I can have the engine cut like a rev limiter if it goes lean at boost. Should have it back by end the week then onto chassis dyno to see what it makes

Greetings from Michigan!
Replaced sway bar end links and bushings all around. Nice improvement in drivability!
Stored for the winter. Merry Christmas to all!
cheers, George
Haven’t been here much recently. Been busy on 540i s/c 6spd tho.
Things done :
• Replaced shocks to koni yellows
• installed walbro 525 fuel pump
• converted to straight e85 with replaced all fuel lines
• installed full black interior with sports seats incl loom conversion.
• removed towbar
• installed m5 gauge cluster 300kmh 8000rpm
• installed bbs rs rebarelled wheels 18x9, 18x10 with Bridgestone RE71R tyres
• new k-Mac adjustable camber plates
• replaced chrome with shadowline trim
• painted bumper plastic trim
• new O-rings for oil cooler to stop leak
• repaired crossover pipe o-ring as was leaking
• replaced coolant and oil caps.
Car goes well now. Running one on the 809 Porsche maf. Had a short in the AEM failsafe gauge which they are replacing. It definetly needs a larger blow off valve. Have also a high grip 8 rib 2.75” pulley to be installed over the std 2.95” one which will max out the vortech and add some boost
also got a hold of some e92 headers with the view to modify / fabricate and make RHD friendly to uncork the restriction from the OEM headers

I’ll dyno it early in the new year.
Should make well over 400rwhp unless the headers are restricting at that power level.

A nice tree and a very luxurious red sleigh!
Today I fixed one of the rear ashtrays. One of them had been jammed shut for years since it was broken when I bought the car, but now it opens and closes very nicely. It's a ridiculously small fix since nobody will ever smoke in the car but the knowledge that it's fixed is very nice.
Removed and replaced Heater Core (& Pipes) a week or so ago. *** DISCLAIMER *** - Don't do it.
Sunroof maintenance today since it had been making kind of a dry noise when opening and closing. I opened it up, cleaned out the old grease from the tracks and added some white lithium grease. My past experience with silicone on hinges was that it attracts dust and dirt like crazy so stick with a dry lubricant!
It opens and closes much quieter now so I'm happy.

Today was fitting the retro EC rearvision mirror and the cruise control to the 520i from the 535i parts car i have,BMW prewire their cars which is great as it makes the retro work a lot easier only issue i had was getting a control module to fit the plug as the module from the 535 was different-found on ebay for $25 bucks delivered and everything works!

Wow really? I never bothered because I couldn't find the parts in Perth and I thought it might not work on an early 525, plus I don't have my own place anymore so I can't get a parts car
Oh do I wish I could... If I did I would still have my falcons and mazdas .
If you find anything like that again or get a parts car let me know.
I just picked up a 1995 525i 5MT (single owner, 92k miles) for super cheap. It has some issues (namely shrunken door seals and other missing or broken interior bits), but is a very solid car in Oxford Green. I own an E39 530i5, but this E34 stumbled into my hands. You'll probably hear a lot more from me when I begin delving into the car's problems. Excited to own my first BMW with a forward-tilting-hood.

Very cool! I've been considering doing the same to modernize mine. What did you use? How did the masking off go?
I've been considering use PlastiDip as a non-permanent test but I'm concerned about the varying shades of white. I can tell your shades are different yet somehow it works really nicely.
That's so low at the rear it's like you're trying to lose the classic wedge shape.
Anyone else on the forum here doing that?
I hope not
