I looked at my parts in hand and noticed that the part numbers were rubbed off from the SF and rear differential bushings. I ordered these parts as Lamfoerder from fcpeuro.com. They told me that this is common. I find it strange why Lamfoerder would distribute these kind of parts (even they are OEM), since they have their own part number. Any feedback is appreciated.

P.S. The forn differential bushing what I've got supposed to be genuine BMW does not have part number or logo on it at all.

FOR RENT: Rear Subframe Bushing Remover/Installer Tool for E39 Sedan AND Tou...

    Lompos,

With regards to the front diff bushing, I completely neglected to specify to buy the billet aluminum bushing instead of the oem rubber bushing. Two reasons for this: to install the oem rubber front bushing, you'll need a very specific tool (a small funnel of some sort) that compresses the bushing into a smaller diameter to then be able to slip it through its mounting hole on the subframe. I've tried to do this before with the correct BMW special tool, it was the biggest PITA I've ever come across. To the point where I destroyed 2 brand new front bushings and still could not get it in properly without getting damaged in the process of sleeving it in. Lots of other fellow E39 M5 enthusiasts have come across this same problem. The solution, at least for me, was a bullet aluminum front bushing. Using a billet aluminum front bushing, it eliminates the need for the actual special funnel tool and allowed me to simply use a home made pushing tool as you see in the pics above. The billet front bushing is only $75 on ebay. I can post the link of the item so you can purchase it. Second reason is the added strength and stiffness the billet bushing to the front area of the diff. The rear diff bushings remain rubber, so there is still some flex and vibration absorbed by the rear diff bushings.

    rblanco6002,

Looks like your inbox is full.

try FCPEuro or ECS tuning for parts, they usually have them in stock.

A question to those who have done this...
Did you use the emulsifier on the new bushings?
If so, where did you get it?

There is one other member in front of you at the moment. He should get the tool this coming weekend. So sometime next week, the tool should ship out to you, if you are ready to receive it. Let me know, thanks!

There is no need to buy a special emulsifier to do the install job. Using WD40 is just as effective. I used WD40 to lubricate the sleeve and the bushing and it slides in very smoothly.

Tool is currently with member rblanco6002 and will ship out to M5hunter this Thursday, Jan. 22

FYI, for anyone looking to do this, the Lemforder bushings are only $50 at FCPEuro, that's ~$40 less than everywhere else I looked.

Just curious why the Powerflex urethane bushing wasn't an option for this application or if it was, why was it rejected. I used Powerflex all around in the front when I redid the front end and am very satisfied with it. I am considering the Powerflex urethane for the RSF this spring when the weather in Michigan breaks but have not been able to find anyone that put urethane bushes into the subframe for their input.

FOR RENT: Rear Subframe Bushing Remover/Installer Tool for E39 Sedan AND Tou...

When I was building my M5 wagon back a few years ago (Mar 2012 - Mar 2014), during the earlier part of the build when I was buying and collecting parts for it, I wasn't too familiar or aware of the Powerflex products. I did hear about them but never researched them or visited their website. What I knew of them was information posted by fellow members on the M5board. So it wasn't so much a rejection of their products but rather a lack on knowledge about them. When it came time to deal with the suspension aspect of the build, I did purchase both front end control arm bushings, #1 & #2. I picked the black ones because I thought that the purple ones were a wee too soft for my build. Purple bushings are 30% stiffer than OEM and the black bushings are 80% stiffer than OEM. This is was what I was told at bavauto. Also, back then the main control arm bushings were a 2 piece bushing (see pic below), not like the revised version they sell now which is a 1 piece and is THE WORST PITA to press into the arm. You have to resort to a proper hydraulic press to insert it. With the old 2 piece style, it took 5 seconds to assemble the bushing and put it back on the car.

But going back to the Polyurethane subframe bushings and diff bushings, I wasn't aware of their availability at that time. I was aware of the polyurethane subframe inserts which was also a nice supplement, but obviously not a replacement to bad or torn subframe bushings and I had to replace my subframe bushings regardless. The hybrid set up I have on the wagon now is great, especially with the reinforcement of the torsion bars. The ride is still very comfortable and not jarring. Up front with black polyurethane control arm bushings, steering and handling is on the firm side, but very precise and quiet. Maybe later down the road, I will consider replacing the diff bushings again with the purple bushings, to experiment and see. Since my subframe bushings are fairly new, I'll keep them around for a couple of years and possibly try out the poly bushes too.
