    "Subframe mounts vs subframe bushings:
I just got the bad news that the part that I recieved from BMA was wrong!
I ordered the "bushings" instead of the "mounts".
The "bushings" are a horizontal item located on the subframe and the "mounts" are mounted vertically into the chassis.
So to make this easier for other people ( as well as cheaper, now I have to pay double bacause I can't wait for BMA)I'm giving you the part #'s for the job.
Patick @ BMA has told me that the "bushings" and the "mounts" are the same for "all" E34's.
    Subframe "Mounts" # - 33-3-1-129-760 $25.00 ea.
For vertically mounting from subframe to chassis.
The picture on Bruno's site would be # 2

    Subframe "Bushings" # - 33-17-1-131-903 $20.00 ea.
The picture on Bruno's site would be # 3

Even Patrick told me this can be a very confusing item for people to order, because BMW lists them both as "bushings", but as you get more into the ordering screen, it finally shows the correct one as being a "mount".
Take it from me, it just happened today.

Jed, I need the tool to remove the bushings that are mounted vertically into the chassis. Plase advise as when I can rent it from you. Thank you.

    Nha,

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the ordering. To be even more specific, I prefer to call the "horizontal bushings" as the part they secure, in this case diff bushing. The vertical bushes are the subframe mounts that secure the subframe to the chassis. The tool for rent in this thread is specific to the E39 sedan and wagon. Since you have an E34, it requires a different tool, and I have that as well. Hopefully this clarifies things. I have in my garage a tool specific to the E34 that removes and installs the rear subframe bushings. We can maintain all the rules and costs involved for you to rent this E34 specific tool. I can ship it out as soon as this afternoon when I get home from work.

For those that have inquired about the diff bushing tool, I do have it and I can rent it out to anyone who wants to replace the 3 differential mounting bushings. Below are some pics of the tool in action for your reference.

The tools are rented out but should be available to ship to you in the next day or so. Which tool do you need? Do you have the bushings on hand already?

Yes I still rent out the tool. It's on it's way to the last renter on the list now. It should be ready to ship out to in a week or so. Have you ordered the new bushings already?

To rent the diff bushing tool, I'll require $125 deposit, and refund $100 upon return. So $25 rental fee.

Do you notice any difference in vibration with the aluminum bushing?

FOR RENT: Rear Subframe Bushing Remover/Installer Tool for E39 Sedan AND Tou...

There is no vibration whatsoever with the aluminum front diff bushing because the 2 rear diff bushings are kept oem. The aluminum bushing simply keeps the front of the diff from moving when compared to the oem rubber bushing. The oem rubber bushing wears over time, there is an apparent increase in movement which leads to bushing failure, which if left unattended, leads to the front diff mount breaking off. This is a well known failure point on the E39 M5. On the non-M E39, the rear subframe and diff mount is identical, albeit it doesn't suffer the same torque forces as an M5. I've had these solid bushings in my cars for years, no noise, vibration or harmonics develop. A few dozen have already installed this solid bushing with no reports any noise or vibration either.

How much is the aluminum diff bushing?

also where is the best place to buy the touring subframe bushings? I'm assuming Meyle HD.

Also trying to figure out a ride height discrepancy with my touring. I'm 1" lower on the passanger side. Any chance that could be caused by the subframe bushings being wiped out? The car has 170k miles on it but I don't see any evidence of them ever being changed.
