Looking to rent the tool. Let me know when its available.
Looking to rent the tool. '03 525iT. Also looking for Lemförder bushings in case any one has a set (expected to be available January, 2022.) I tried Meyle HDs on my last wagon but they seemed harsh.
Thanks
Do you still have the tool and is it for rental
I'd also like to rent this.
Eh that 'simple' claim is way off target.
The main benefit of the rental tool is that it is designed so that you don't have to remove the sub frame from the car. You just loosen the bolts to drop the sub frame down a few inches, enough to fit the bushing in between the body and sub frame, and the tool both extracts the old ones and pushes in the new ones. AND works for both wagons and sedans. Looks like that home-made job is just a basic extractor and won't work with the sub frame on the car because that lip is on top of the sub frame. Only about 2-3 hours to do all four from start to finish with the good tool. Hell you don't even have to take the wheels off of the car.
I would try to send the renter a PM if you haven't already.

FYI, in case this tool is not available, I rented a slightly different tool from Neil Schelly. I was very pleased with the tool and the OE BMW bushings which I ordered from GetBMWParts for my 2003 525 touring. Several years ago I tried Meyle solid bushings in a different wagon and noticed no decrease in harshness and clunking over bumps. Looking to rent tool, but can't get PMs to work thru the site...please contact me

Pretty easy to make a solution. Make sure to grease the threads so they slide easily / dont damage.
This was a few dollars in angle iron that was laying around, and a 1/2" threaded rod with a few nuts. (Also laying around) the threads got chewed some. But I have 6 feet of this rod, so i will just replace it each bushing. Replacing with powerflex busings so no tools needed for installation.
I have no idea if this is still available to rent or anything about the logistics. Caveat Emptor

Once again, the point of the tool is that no sub-frame removal is required. Unscrew the bolts to drop the subframe down enough to fit the top part of tool between sub-frame and body, then remove and replace bushings, working your way around all four. 2 hour job. You don't even have to take the wheels off.

Just to clarify, since I too will soon be doing this job, are you saying do one corner at a time with all four bolts loosened but only one removed at a time? Is it worth getting some threaded rod to "hang" the subframe a bit lower on as some threads suggest, or is that not really required?
Yes loosen up then one corner at a time. No threaded rod is required. I had access to a hoist so really easy. I would think theirs a how to somewhere in this thread.
If doing on jack stand maybe 3 hours or so. Just takes a while ratcheting the old ones out and new ones in.
I have a tool available for rent. Did my bushes in under 2 hours with it. Cost is $50 + shipping at actual cost + refundable $300 deposit.

Yes, you could pay for shipping. Wait for the mail. Get it done in the allowed time? Hope you don't compromise the rented tool? Then spend another day shipping it out. Or just slap together some angle iron. Drop the subfrane because your refreshing more than just the bushings when your in there. Spend nothing, owe nothing. Takes one day. New tool on the shelf. To each their own. In the end I actually only used the first rod. Grease does wonders.
To each their own. If you can't handle bleeding rear brakes. I totally understand.

A eight year old tool rental thread and a two year old thread with no complaints but okay. The tool rental is super easy way to do it.
Couple hours of work and two minutes to print a new shipping label on to the next person.
Again there is no need to pull the the rear sub frame, but hey to each their own.
This thread is so helpful, even to those who can't rent the tool ( like me, I am from Europe). I just made the tool from metal bits and scraps. I have a question to you guys - I just got back from a test drive. Squicking noise from the back is gone and car feels much better. However, there is one thing that got me worried. I can hear a distinct metallic sound from under the car, it is speed related. Is possible that lowering the subframe damaged the shaft/center support beering ??
