Ugh, bad night for me as well. Test and tune was rained out without a drop of rain (drove 45min to find out), subframe became loose even though I thought I fixed it, dropped my exhaust on a highway, then locked myself out of the car when removing the exhaust... on the side of the highway.

Next week my friend, I tried like hell to run tonight. Weather was perfect for power. But no matter what I did, the tires were rubbing. I gotta jack up the rear with some stiffer springs.

    More spring pad?

I'm kinda worried that the subframe mounts are torn... They looked fine when I dropped the subframe, but I didn't really look. Not sure what the tell-tale signs are. I thought the studs were the issue.

    .
I already am running 15mm spring pads w/ OE sport springs.
But doing some test hits the rear squats too much under heavy load. Flyfish is brings me some springs and adjusters to try out.
    Theory says it should work.

On the way, wish me luck.
Little worried, Pbonsalb is handicapping me. When I wasn't looking he added a bunch of weight to my gas tank. I see this is going to be a cut throat season.

Well..... not a good night. Could not get traction. High boost (19 psi) spun 1st and 2nd . Then as the night got cooler, it got worse. Last run I ran 1st and 2nd gear on low boost (7 psi) and still spun the dam drag tires. I guess its just still too cold. But sharing is caring.
    So here you go.

I think you would have broken into the 12s if you were not carrying all that extra fuel weight.

Or maybe that extra fuel was giving him more traction... Who knows.

There was also a 135i with N54 and JB4 tune that ran in the 13s with traps as high as 107, an 08 M3 that trapped in the 13s at almost 104, a 335i of unknown year and mods that trapped in the 13s at around 105, and an E46 330ix that trapped at around 90.

Pretty much a night of spinning. Next try will be a day trip. Test and tune on a Sunday.

Not sure they prepped for drag tires. Most likely on Wednesday they clean for "street tires" . Usually a bad 60ft is 2.2 , not 2.6. Which seemed to be what everyone was achieving.

Either way it was fun, and can't wait to go again. Thinking a test and tune on a Saturday with a little bit warmer weather. With enough notice I can close up shop for a Saturday if we want to get a crew going.

Sounds like your trap was pretty fast for the day. Bet you could knock a second off that ET with a good launch and more traction.

Should be able to knock more than that off. Last years best was 12.2 @ 119 with a 2.0 60. So a 1.9 60 should net me a 11.

    Just glad nothing broke.

Usually stuff breaks when you actually get traction

    Make it out yet?

Side note, put a call into M&H (makers of the tires im running) let him know how poor traction was, and he informed me to stay OFF the track under 60 degrees. The tires will be useless with temps below 60. But @ least I got in some runs, didn't break anything and got a personal best for trap speed. Also a personal worst for 60ft times.

Sunday is import wars. I hope weather is good. Should be a great time.

Last two test and tunes were rained out... Looks like this friday's will be as well.

Interesting on the tires. Is it damaging to their life to run them in the cold, or is the compound just set up for warmer temps?

Unfortunately yes (kinda) he said try to not do it again, spinning in 2nd and 3rd is only going to waste the compound. But he assured me that on a 75 degree day, they will hook so hard we will either have a great pass or break something. Phil and I were kinda worried about the size, but he is 100% confident they will hold up just fine. So we will have to have faith in the guy who has 30 years of making drag tires I guess.

Kinda random question, do you launch in 1st or 2nd with the 3.23 gears?

I think I would launch in 2nd with my 3.38, BUT I'm on 325 axles, so it's just a matter of time before I snap those.

I've been toying with the idea of launching from 2nd, funny you ask cause I did a ton of searching on it last week. From what I read, its not a good idea. Do you know people that have?

Yeah drag radials will snap those axles. Unless you preload the drivetrain @ the tree. I busted 5 328 axles. Now I have the M3s and are cryotreated. I really hope I don't break one of those.

Side note; I never broke an axle while s/ced , due to the way power was delivered, I think you maybe fine.

Yeah, I'm sure that the flatter torque curve of the SC helps with axles. But 400ft-lb is still more than 2x what they were designed for. So I bet I could still break one with a very hard launch in 2nd on a drag surface.

I have launched in 2nd on street tires, and it feels fast. I imagine with the right launch it would be faster. If you think about it, 2nd is only good for 55-60mph. Which is about what a Corvette or something like that does in 1st gear. Not comparing the two drivetrains, but I don't think it would bog badly. Would be a different story with a 2.93 or lower.

Im wondering if a launch wouldn't save the axles. It will put a hurting on the clutch for sure. Im very interested to hear some results of launching from 2nd.

I would not launch in 2nd due to concerns about the clutch, with 3.38 gearing. Probably not with a 3.64, either (I never did when I had a 3.64). Maybe with a 3.91. But I am curious about how it goes if you want to try it . . . .
