Help me figure out what trans was in my car

This transmission was in my 745i for years. The PO told me he rebuilt the trans, but now I am confused because this is not a 091 745i trans.

The only thing I can find that seems close is the last 3 digits in the 735i. (041)

Part 24001217041 (Rmfd automatic transmission) was found on the following vehicles:

    E23: Details on E23
    E23 735i Sedan, USA
    E23 735i Sedan, Europe

Here are all PN I could find on the trans.

I found this, but how could a e30 trans go in this car? Just swap bell housing? Pretty sure this info is probably wrong.

Is the transmission the same from auto to manual cars?

OK I sick of reading, I think I'm digging a deeper hole lol. If anyone knows, please let me know

OK last update, I think I may have found it.

There was thread from an Austrailian guy a couple of weeks ago. He was swapping a trans from an 86' E24.

    Here is what he said.

I now have the car running with the #17 fuse still blown but the car would not spark with the E24 TCU in it.
    The TCU are different numbers.
I found that the gearbox electrical connector was disconected so I pluged it in and tried to use the E24 TCU and there was no spark. I pluged in the original E23 TCU and the car fires up so this is where I am at now.
1/The car starts in neutral and park but will not start in gear so this is good.
2/ The car does not engage into gear.
3/Will the Autobox work with the original TCU as I have checked with ETK and they are the same gearbox and torque converter.

I have checked on ETK and the gearbox from the
    E24 is
    XM 31.5062.00
    1043401484

So this shows that the 635 E24 autobox will work in the E23 but the TCU that is from the E24 will not give spark to the E23 so do I have to use the TCU from the E24 or can I use the original TCU that is in the car.

This is the same trans I have (4HP22-XM PN 24001216130)

So are they the exact same between chassis?

Part 24001216130 (Rmfd automatic transmission EH) was found on the following vehicles:
    E23: Details on E23
    E23 735i Sedan, USA
    E23 735i Sedan, Europe

    E24: Details on E24
    E24 635CSi Coupe, USA
    E24 635CSi Coupe, Europe

    E28: Details on E28
    E28 535i Sedan, USA
    E28 535i Sedan, Europe
    E28 M535i Sedan, Europe

    Thumbs up

    Well...........

My black 10/84 745i has a TJ coded ZF part number 1043-010-091 in it. AFAIK it is the original transmission. Why? The valve body was FULL of crap when I disassembled it, the 'A' pack modification was not updated within the VB, and the eight pin connector plug's o-ring was rock hard.

The spare ZF PN 1043-010-091 sitting here I sent you the photograph of earlier, has no stamping of TJ or XK on the ID plate. Which is indicative of what RealOEM.com shows on their site as one of the three Motronic 745i transmissions.

    BUT

It seems the XK is the ONLY one available for the 86MY cars that had the ZF PN 1043-010-286 coded trans per RealOEM.com YET it shows backward compatibility with the pre 86MY cars I have no clue what is different on the 1043-010-286.

I figure the trans in question came from a US E23/4/8 from mid '85 (these are the earliest EH cars I have seen) to mid '87? when ZF dropped a solenoid and went to the seven pin harness as B35s were coming out. XM is the stamp code for the EH on those aforementioned units up to 06/87 best I can tell along with the R2 torque converter. The 745i has the P1 converter.

That is all I have to offer.
    I make E23 parts.
09/1983 745i (stolen spring '13 around Houston, TX Achatgruen on nutria buffalo. 8481080)
    10/1984 745i
    11/1984 745i
    11/1984 735i (10:1-265/6)
Ford, MB, and GM round out the pack.

    I think you are correct.

So this is the 4HP-22XM Trans found in the E23/4/8. Real OEM shows it came on EURO and US cars.

The trans was rebuild by the PO. Here is what he told me.

It can from an e23 735i. I do not know what internals were used in the rebuild. I do remember that a stronger valve body from another brand of car was used.

Hello Sicstang03, refloat the topic to ask if that 735i transmission worked correctly and without modifications in your 745i.

    Thank you!

Yes, they will be fine but expect a shorter life with lesser shift quality.

Turbo cars had extra clutches and a completely different valve body. Plus the aforementioned converter and bell housing.

I know as I rebuild them.
