There is nothing in the rules that allows the use a 3.15 rear end from a 1995 M3. You can use the internal LSD unit from a 1995 M3, but not the ring gear or any other rear end part that is different from the standard 325 parts.

The one I found is from a 325, not an M3. According to another guy that posted previously, the M3 and 325 LSD diffs have the same FD.

They have the same final drive RATIO but not the same final drive gears. The holes in the M3 ring gear are threaded for M14x1.5 bolts and the non-M are M12x1.5.

Ok makes sense...so the one I am looking at is from a 325 with the 3.15 fd ratio (the auto trans has a 3.91 fd I understand), so I should be good within STX rules. It is not an M3 diff.

    Thx for the additional info.

Fixed my driver side window with a motor out of a 318i for $20 bux..all working now yay!

Sanded off all the rust that was on the passenger drip trim and painted it, as well as touching up dozens of paint chips and flakes from the hood. Looks much better.

Indeed! Just looked at the Jersey results and there are a lot of twins :o

Might be making a suspension/tire purchase here this month, we'll see. Anxious to get this car going.

Got me a 28mm Eibach front bar and the LSD! Starting a new (kind of) job on Monday, nice pay increase, TC Kline DA's and RS3v2's soon, hopefully

Also, I am un-beaten against the twins in C-Street in the RX-8 so far this year, haha! Hopefully that carries over to STX when this car is ready

I can't wait to get it going either. Car is a lot of fun to drive even bone stock, looking forward to how it feels with the suspension/wheels/tires/bar all installed and setup!

    Stop showing that video.

You realize your competition sees it enough and gets depressed time and time again

Haha, nice! I'm almost there (to purchasing the TCK DA's)!!!

In the meantime, spreading my videos around...new one up of the LSD and Eibach bars, nothing special. LSD will get new clutch discs soon as well:

Not to derail the thread but I'm in process of building a stx e36, copying most of your build. Is there a reason why you went 255/17 wide tire instead of 265/18? According to scca rules I though you can ran up to 265mm tire, wouldn't extra tire mean extra grip?

A few reasons, I think. The 18" wheels (using my Arc 8's as example) are over 2# heaver per wheel, cost more, and the tires (using my RS3v2's as example) are 50% more expensive. Plus the 17x9 is what was recommended to me by the fast guys already running the car

265/18 has a REALLY hard time fitting without affecting the 'contour' of the fender, which is against the rules...if you can get a 265/18 to fit, I would love to see it......

Wider wheels are faster. Wider tires are sometimes slower. At best there are only minor benefits to tires wider than 225 on 9" wide wheels. There can be a bigger advantage to shorter tires. People have tried the 265/18s on STX cars and found them slower.

265 on 9" is pitched, you don't want a pitched tire. Plus it's a lot taller, you're losing acceleration with the 265/35/18.

I feel compelled to thank you for actually spelling it "losing" instead of "loosing". Damn internets! Pedantry kudos!

Also, kline fit 265's once upon a time.

Matthew - data supporting? Haven't seen the 328's resort to 235/40/17's which are available in ZII's, and anything to improve gearing there would be done by those guys.

I am pretty sure Murphy tried 265s on his ZHP. The only 235 to try would be the R1R. The ZII is the exception that works well in wider tires. I plan on trying one of the 225/45R16s after these Kumhos.
