Dimensions of the intercooler. 24"x28ish"x3" (WxHxDepth) Along with 3" inlet and outlet.

Also, what's an average engine temp I should be seeing once warmed up?

    190F i think?

my jeep runs at 220, my mazda runs at about 180, so i'd assume 190 - 200 is probably on par. if i can find it in the manual i'll post up that instead of my own guesstimate though.

edit: Okay it looks like the OE themostat is 176F (80C). so it looks like 180 - 190 is probably a better number to be seeing for temp. (between 80 - 88C)

Thanks, I wonder then if my resistance values are off. I'm getting around 220F, then when the fan kicks on it will go down to 190F. However the stock gauge stays directly in the 12 O'clock position. I'm wondering if I should ground out the fan and splice it to a switched ignition source that way it's on all the time as long as the car is on. Like I said, I installed an 80/88C temp switch for the fan so I don't know why it's not turning on until 220F unless the values are wrong.

Side note, I ordered the rest of the piping I should need for the intercooler.

I'm not sure how accurate the stock gauges are tbh. I've never tested.

Are you using an aftermarket sender and gauge or is this the info from MS using the factory temp sender?

That's true, I've read that the 12 O'clock position can a very unprecise number.

Correct, I'm just using the info the MS is getting from the stock temp sensor.

Mine reads high as well with megasquirt, but remains dead center on the gauge cluster. I wonder if the temp sensors are different between the m20 and m30? (currently using the default 325i temp settings)

I do remember having to change the temp sensor on my m30 swap into the e30 so that the stock e30 gauge reads correctly.

Using m20 settings as well. I suppose you could swap in a m20 sensor, but until now I figure they shared all the same resistance values. I measured the resistance of the m30 sensor using ice cold water, room temperature water, and boiling water. However, I'm unsure how to translate the resistance from the 1 to 5 ohms to how they have it. From like 2000 to 9000 units. Ideas?

So one of the local yards just got in a 95 530i so I went by to see if it had any goodies, managed to find some okay stuff. I might see if I can somehow vent air up to the intake using the alternator duct and some flex hose.

The real bummer is that all of the doors were locked and the only way I could get in was by a smashed in window on the passenger door. I tried to take off the door actuator but I couldn't get to the other two star bolts. Anyway I can get these doors open?!

Also while I was there I finally got around to pulling the MINT black dash from the 535i they have there to replace my blue, warped and cracked dash.

I don't have any photos but the dash has been in for a while. Looks loads better. Over the last two weeks I've been messing with trying to get the proper piping and couplers ordered. I ordered a 2" to 2.5" 90 degree elbow for the bottom side turbo and ran 2.5 piping to the intercooler, than ran 3" piping from the other side of the intercooler to the TB. I'm unsure if it's from the piping dimension I switch to or the cooling efficiency of the new intercooler, but this is nice noticeable difference. Also, I was sure I would experience some sort of lag since the intercooler is much larger than the previous one, but I guess that's not how things work since there is none.

Also my GF and I of 3 years broke up, so you gents are going to have to settle for cellphone pictures from now on, since she was the one who owned the nicer camera. Also, I got all my piping and couplers from MAperformance.com and they are some good quality products.

Also that 530i alternator cooler duct didn't really seem to fit right so I just took off both panels for now. I'll probably do something to make it look a little better but this is how it's going to be for now.

i had to shave a bit off my fog delete panel and my duct piece in the front as well to make them fit.

sorry about the breakup. been there. just means you get more time to work on the E34 right?

Yeah I might give it an other try if I can think of anything else to do with it. No worries man stuff like that happens, but not only more time but I will actually have $$ to spend.

Also I think it's worthy to note that I didn't see the iat going higher than the ambient temp of 88 today. Huge improvement over the 150 I was seeing 3 weeks ago.

Sub'd. This thread is full of awesome.

I have an E23 745i with the stock 013 DME that's been modified by eCarToys to accept a 5-speed. It runs pretty well, but I'd like to know more about what's going on inside the thing. I also have an old MS sitting around. You've inspired me to start collecting parts - I already have a B35 harness, but I'll be grabbing a B35 starter, clutch fan and other goodies. I'll start thinking about bigger injectors too. I'm a bit confused about the injectors you're using - are they the Buick ones?

Hey that's great! Let me know if you need any parts, the yards around me have quite a few e34's now. I pulled them from the supercharged whatever it was. Part number should be visible in the photo. I only intended to use them as a temporary solution since I was in need of high impedance injectors that day to get the engine running on 1.3. They are 29lbers. Some things have happened in my life so everything is taking longer than expected, but things should be getting a lot better in the next week.

Figured I'd bump this. I plan on getting the MS running on wasted spark and figuring out the accel enrichment. After that and once the funds are secured, I plan removing the motor and painting the car a dark grey. The car was originally a light blue and who ever re-sprayed it red didn't do the best job, it's something that isn't a huge deal but has always bugged me. Plus, I've never been a huge fan of red. I'm thinking should be completed within 2-3 months. When the motor is out I'll also have the TB remounted so that the IC piping is better flowing.

Also when the window trim is off for painting, I plan on getting a gloss black finish for them as well as tint. The Borbets will also be powder coated a darker color. More or less a black. This will be a huge change, but will come out looking much better hopefully.

Color I'm going for, haven't found an exact match so if anyone knows any more about this color please let me know.

Some guess from the e34 FB page:

    Lachsilber
    Space Grey
    Singapore Grey
    Steel Grey
    Delphin Grey Metallic
    Fjord Grey

A list of more colors, really leaning towards the Delphin Grey Metallic.

Small update. Got the diypnp running on the most current firmware 3.3.2 rather than the 3.2.5 it was running on. This offers a lot more options within tunerstudio and will let me also run an output test mode to see why my fuel relay isn't working correctly.

You can see what exactly has been updated since the previous 3.2.x here, if you're interested.
