Should be getting my M42 swap mounts and exhaust manifold Tuesday. Custom gas pedal from Tailored Supply (to replace the weird plastic one) gets in tomorrow.

Almost done with the floor prep, might finish this weekend. Then the REAL painting can begin. Also about half way through refreshing the M42 engine. Looking very nice, all internals are squeeky clean. I have a huge box of new parts to go on so every gasket (besides the head) will be replaced, all o-rings, hoses, plastic parts, and wear items will be 100% new.

Decided to make up some carbon kevlar door panels, instead of doing my usual printed/cut vinyl graphics like my other cars.

Since this is a rather busy look, I won't be doing the checkered floors after all... For now I will just finish coating it all out in white to seal everything, then do a final top coat in black.

Keep up the postings. I really like the old carbureted, point ignition cars. Especially the 2002 series, I love the look of the 2002 and older 630csi series. I'm anxious to see how your project goes. Cool Stuff.

Another parts round. I have some more photos to post up as well as soon as I can convert them. Also got another gorgeous Tailored Supply part, the aluminum brake/clutch fluid reivour.

Also ordered up the carbon/kevlar for the door panels, and some cool pull straps.

Condor Speed Shop e30 transmission mounts.

Bit of an issue on Jakeb's passenger side swap mount. As you can see, the top nut can't be centered on the hole, as it interferes with the vertical wall.
Modified so that the stud can pass all the way through now. These are the Condor Speed Shop 2002 engine mounts.

Orange & Black carbon/kevlar cloth came in for the door panels. It's amazingly pretty, could not be happier with my choice.

Almost done with the engine, got the last batch of my special order parts yesterday, and just need to have my fuel injectors refurbished and flow matched by Dano when he hits winter break. Then I can button it all up.

Next up is swapping out all the old suspension, and replacing it all with new/upgraded parts (besides coils). Some wiring to do for the new engine, but should not be bad at all. I just want to do it very well and clean.

Getting down to just big ticket items left to purchase - CAtuned performance coilovers, Wilwood disc BBK on all 4 corners, header back exhaust which will need to be custom, tires. My budget won't allow me to finish by the end of the year, so we will look to have her on the road as soon as spring hits I think.

Not too much new for now, but I did finally pull the trigger on my first BBK ever. Went with the IE Wilwood kit front and rear, with all upgrades/options.

Engine has been done and ready to drop in for a while, so right now I am really just stacking up parts. Ready for it to get warm and get our daylight back so I can start putting stuff back on!

More saving for the last items, trying to get it running or very close in the next couple months before I move off the mainland. I have almost everything now and just have to start swapping out old for new.

I'll post some more pictures as soon as I get a chance.

This is my shipping nightmare of trying to get my beloved dream car to my new home. Company used was Auto Transport 123.
I want to make sure this never happens to anyone else.

    Order 874154-BT
They were to pick up a car of mine in Northern California at my residence, take it to the port, ship to Hawaii, then deliver to my new residence. It was a know non-op car.. classic collector's dream, a 1972 BMW"2002" round tail light model. I gave up everything I had here to move and help my dad start his first business. This was not just some car I threw money at either. I hunted for 10 years to find one. I put a year of work into it to rebuild. I scoured the world for hundreds of parts to rebuild her back to better than new. They had a week to pick it up until I moved, said "No problem, give us 1-3 days". A week went by, and I was forced to catch an already scheduled flight to HI. Now I'm not there, still no word, car is still sitting in CA. I call them to see what's up, and they have basically been sitting on their hands doing nothing because I was "mis-quoted". Why would you not tell me this?! Okay, originally quoted $1775, now they want $2050. I am SO desperate at this point I say okay just make it happen.

Another 3 business days (not even including the 2 weekend days tow drivers work regardless) goes by and still nothing. Now I am absolutely furious. After calling multiple times a day and speaking to 3 people, I finally get it picked up after 12 total days. Success? Of course not. Tow driver gets the car to port, they have not booked it properly, now they want $3600 plus. By the way the tow driver has been sitting on a 100+ degree parking lot for 3 hours while they refuse his calls or just hang up on him. He has no choice but to leave and store my car, as it's getting so much attention it's about to be stolen off the truck if he's not right next to it. On the phone they again just tell you what you want to hear, then do whatever the hell they please. They say "No problem, we'll work this out for you no matter what. We don't even want to make a dollar at this point, we just want it out of our hair".

What do they do while I am asleep? They go ahead and pay themselves in full, I suppose for a job well done... right? Now another $1650 gone from my bank account, a grand total of $2050. My car has not left 45 miles of my driveway even. They're not paying and will not pay the tow driver, so now he owns my car by law. Fees and storage are in my name now, even though they did this horribly botched deal, and he's going to lien sale my car in order to get the money THEY owe him.

Please, PLEASE, PLEEEASE make sure you and nobody you knows ever does ANY business with these scumbags. Do me a favor and share this anywhere any everywhere you can. They stole my car and my dreams.

just call the tow driver tell him to wait until you sort this out and sue this company
or you just pay the tow driver and tell him to store it at his place or something

Yeah, managed to get it back but I've already lost way too much money over it. I've sold it for almost nothing to a buddy in NY just so I can be rid of it.

    ***Long overdue update

I did end up working with the subcontracted tow driver, he was a really cool dude. He promised to drop the car back off at the house I used to live with. My ex-landlord there allowed me to keep it there another month even though I wasn't even in California any longer. That gave me time to see what my options were. Basically, nobody will ship a non-running car to the islands, because they already have a huge issue with non-running, abandoned cars there. Shitty, but understandable. (The only way to then get it there was dropping another 10k on a half size shipping container and arranging my own freight forwarding.) At that point I had already bled about that much moving my wife and I over there to help my POS step-dad.

Step-dad ended up screwing me over big time, so I just worked over there and literally didn't do anything so I could squirrel up enough money to move back all over again. Ended up selling the rebuilt M42 while I was there to a guy with an e30 who needed a backup engine and was just one island over. Bimmer stuff is super rare on the Big Island if it's anything e39 and younger, by the way. Basically the same hassles as owning an exotic on an island.

I ended up getting everything in order at the end of 2 years to be able to move my wife and I back to the mainland. Ended up trying to make LA work, but just couldn't land a decent job at the time. Made some calls, and in a single day I had a place to live with a friend back up in the Bay area, and got my old job back. Flew up over the weekend, and started work on Monday. Having not seen anything from a buddy in NY that had bought my 2002 remotely, I hit him up and asked what was up with the car. Apparently he had not done anything with the car yet, and just had it transported to SoCal where it sat for those couple years I was gone. I asked to buy it back, he happily agreed, and early this year one of my best friends up here drove his truck down and picked it up for me, and towed her back home.

The car sits in my driveway now, and I simply cannot wait to start cracking on it again the second spring hits. The current plan is to now swap in a VQ37VHR (v6 from the 370Z/G37) and beef up the rear end. I'm thinking the 2002 Underground rear subframe which allows a 188mm e30 LSD, 4340 chromoly axle stubs, and then I'll box up and reinforce the trailing arms. I would love to do tubular rear trailing arms, but at nearly 4k just for those, idk if I can justify such a thing. Rest of the build likely won't change from my original vision for the car. That's about it, but I'll update with some pictures again when I start working on her again. Excited!!!

Holy moly.... I respect your dedication to these cars. As well as the fact you were trying to help extended family and being selfless. Glad you got the car back in the end!
