New parts!!! Nice!
Rounded up a bunch of roundie tails, so I will be piecing the best ones together and doing the full LED retrofit. Centers and red sections will be repainted with Testors transparent Candy Apple, then doing a UV clear over the whole lens. If the other lenses are good enough, I will do some spare sets as well. Can't wait to see how they come out, should be fantastic.
Sweet can't wait for more updates!!!
Almost finished with the "Terminator" dash:
Top section - mostly stripped

Top & Bottom, completely stripped, sanded and smoothed.

Painted, just need to paint the bottom as well (to seal from rust) and clear the whole thing.

Nice
The restoration is going great so far! Do I mind asking how much you payed for the car when you got it, and how much you have payed so fer in parts. I want to do a 02 restoration, but I don't know how much it will cost. Thanks!
The cheapest I have seen in CA is in the $2000-$3500 range, though if you don't mind waiting a year and comb Craigslist daily you might be able to find the rare "fire sale" deal. This one looked pretty solid on the body and chassis, I loved the color, complete almost running car, and it was close enough to bring home with a AAA tow. It was listed for $3500, but we ended up closing at $3000.
I have not tallied up my receipts as of yet, but I do have them all and will be putting together a spreadsheet soon and will post it in here.
A proper restoration (full paint removal) price is highly dependent on what percentage of the work you are doing yourself. One of the top concours bimmer restoration shops just crossed the 100k mark, but most shops will be fine between 30k-50k complete, if you do a good chunk yourself expect to pay 20k-30k all in.
If its a cosmetic (or mechanical) refresh, or an "artistic" approach like Spyke's then the total is highly variable.
Neat looking dash core Spyke. While your approach is unconventional, it will be cool to see how it turns out.
Tail light lenses sanded, painted all red, and cleared. Inner diffusers and reflectors removed to allow more light to pass

Got new gaskets for the tails too, so now they can go back on the car.
Awesome pics and updates. PM me if you need any 02 parts I have 3 cars worth in my garage and I know how hard to find they can be sometimes
M42 arranged to be picked up next week, scored it for under $200 and already got the trans from a local buddy for $80. M42 > 2002 swap mounts and exhaust manifold ordered up from Jakeb as well.
Looks like things will finally start moving again, excited!
Nice can't wait. .
Engine is now at my house - got my lift and engine stand back from my little brother just in time.
In the final steps of floor prep and surface rust mitigation, so should be painting the interior soon. Pedal box rebuild/upgrade kit just came in as well.

M42 Coil-on-plug conversion kit ordered!
Also found another valve cover to replace the cracked one + full engine wiring harness + 175 ECU.
(I don't think they realized the valve cover was cracked - damage was on the back side, up against the firewall. Hence why I got the whole thing so cheap.)
Love the updates, keep 'em coming!
