    Bumpsteer spacers..E12 and maybe E28

Testing the water with this. When a car is lowered the steering geometry is affected. So bump steer spacers are used to get it back to where it was or closer by spacing the tie rod levers from the strut. What I have gleaned from reading the write ups on this is, the spacer should be close to the amount of drop. The only spacers available are 1/2" in thickness, and if a thicker spacer is needed multiple sets have to be bought, They sell uniformly for $120 a set. I am thinking of making these in 1/2", 3/4" and 1" thicknesses. I will sell them at $115 with a larger selection of thicknesses.. I know these will fit E3 and E12 and possibly E9. My belief is the E9 should have the same bolt spacing where the steering lever bolts on to the strut

Even better make them with an offset for some more -ve camber. I have them on the e24 and they give -2deg. same as the IE ones available for the 2002. I've got a spare set of non offset ones I'll measure the thickness of them

Due to the cost of material and set up time, I need at least 6 guys in. I have one. I do have these posted in several other places so again, if I get a combined group of 6 I will move ahead. I am doing this only for the pre '82, E12 chassied cars.

    FYI:
Bump Steer is when your wheels steer themselves without input from the steering wheel. The undesirable steering is caused by bumps in the track interacting with improper length or angle of your suspension and steering linkages. Most car builders design their cars so that the effects of bump steer are minimal.

There are a few guys on big coupe that are interested in E28 size spacers. If 10 guys will order them, I will make them. There is no rush just let me know and I can start a list

I've got a full set of plans on cad for the offset e28 and e34 ones. I got quoted $330 aud to get 2 more machined up. The offset ones are great as they add around -1.5 deg of front camber. They have lasted well and totally transform the handing from so-so to neutral orsomeness. I'm happy to send the plans if they are used for group buy type purposes but not for major commercial gain. I was going to do a few myself and sell them off. I'd love to do an e23 set also as this is one car that could really benifit from some -ve camber, but I think they run thier own unique lower strut mourning setup.

I like the sound of that Gaz. One question, can the camber also be adjusted by adjustable strut mounts at the top of the strut, or are those for something else?

    Thanks,

    Eric

Perm, I need 6 guys to step up as it is not cost effective to do any less. I will keep you on my list and will let you know if it comes to fruition

Hi, realize this is the old thread, but wondering if there is any chance to get the Cad drawings for those offset E24/E28 bump steer spacers?
I might have a good connection to get a couple of sets machined out of 6066-T6 Aluminum.
I could probably draw them myself, but it would save a lot of time and measuring if there would be a chance to get a drawing; would be also happy to pay for it.

No makee any more for E12 chassis and I am not sure they still have them for E28 at least they didn't when I originally looked into this. The difference in what I was going to do was offer them in various thicknesses to correspond with the amount of drop incurred

    Hi Bert,

"Sary" was asking about E24--that's why I offered the link.

How are you doing? Going to show my car in Oct. @ the AACA Hershey show in PA.

After all the work I must admit it's a friggin rocket ship.

Take care and be safe Bert.

You as well. I was going to buy a set to use for a base pattern from any of the advertised sellers. None of them had carried them for years You stay safe as well

I am now into my second complete engine build with only 20 minutes run time on the first one. The original builder fckd it up so bad I had to go back to square one. Only thing done right is the head. Pistons were even fit wrong so a complete short block.

    Bert,

Sorry to hear about a second build. That really sucks.
One thing about owning these 6 series is we never say never.
Good luck with the second build.

    And to you Dr. George,

How are you? It would be great to see you @ Hershey. On Saturday, I'll be in the "DPC" class. "Driver-Participation-Class".
I'll get there Thurs. Oct.8th and heading home Sunday morning. The show is on Saturday in the chocolate parking lots.
