Hi all, great forum and very useful with a current problem I'm experiencing on my 2003 Z4 2.5i. The problem first appeared as the DSC, ABS and tyre pressure lights coming on together at start up and don't go off. Eventually the problem was diagnosed at an auto electrician with BMW computer as being the rotation rate sensor, sometimes called the yaw rate sensor, beneath the driver seat. With the help of posts from here I managed to find it and saw it was soaked through a leak. No wonder it was showing as an electrical failure
The leak has been fixed but I need to replace my rotation rate sensor which is part of the DSC. I have took it off the car and have the part number 34526759412. New this is an expensive part for an 11 year old car so I'm looking at used.
Non are available for a Z4 E85 in the usual google search, ebay, parts gateway in the UK, but they are available here for the E46 and some Mini cars. The adverts for these model cars are showing the identical part number for the sensor as that off my Z4.
My question is, if I buy one of these from another model but with the identical part number, will it work directly with my Z4 or will it have to be re programmed with a computer? Ie, are they model specific despite having the same part number?
Various posts indicate the rotation rate sensor is plug and play if off another Z4, but not sure about from another model.
Anybody can answer definitively please?
Can't say about the reprogramming, but if the part # is identical! then it's the same part.
BMW doesn't reuse part numbers by vehicle, at least as far as I've ever had the experience with them.
If part # X is the same on a 328 as it is on an X3, then it's the same part.
Here is a PDF of the replacement procedure out of the TIS. It must be calibrated.....
I also performed a P/N search on the number you gave (34526759412) in RealOEM and it does not show that part number for a Z4 in Europe or the US.
Part 34526759412 (Speed sensor) was found on the following vehicles:
JCW: Details on JCW
JCW C-Cup Coupe, Europe
You all never seem to have enough time to do the job properly the first time, but you always seem to find the time to do it a second time......... ME
Thanks very much indeed, guess it will need the computer then! I can confirm that is the part number of the sensor I took off my Z4, it seems to be used on E46 and JCW minis looking at various google results. Not sure why the realOEm site doesn't say that though. There are several available in the uk from E46 cars so I assume I can fit one and have it calibrated. Thanks very much for your help, appreciated.
If it would need reprogramming, it would need reprogramming regardless if you get a Z4 or E46 unit. Calibration does not neccesarily mean it needs to be coded to the car per se... but you will likely have to pull it up in the BMW computer system to "reset" it so to speak.
I think the part number you need is 34526764018 - this # is shared with certain Mini Coopers and E46 models as you mentioned.

Hey guys question I bought a yaw sensor for my 2003 z4 the part number is the exact same can I put it in and clear the code with my bmw scanner any insight would be great
I just did this today. Had same symptoms as the OP. Did not need to code the sensor. Swapped it out and the dsc, yellow brake light and tire pressure lights all went out automatically. Had to reset the airbag light. This needs to be done in the body safety modules menu of inpa, not in the airbag menu.
Thank you so
Much waiting for mine hopefully it works
