    e36 318is vs. S-10 Blazer / modded F-150/ circa 1980's ford focus???

Well I was just crusing around the local hot spot with one of my bros. Chillin with the roof open and the windows down, system up pumping some Metallica. I pull up to a stop light and I already have everyone's attention with the noise, but I get them gawkin with the black 318. Next thing I know A supercharged F-150 pulls up next to me and gets next to the S-10 blazer in front of me and starts revving. I hear the sweet whine of the supercharger and remember seeing this guy racing on an earlier occasion. So I'm begging for the S-10 to rev back. He does. So I'm like yeah, we got a race going. I start revving my 100% stock e36 318is 1.8. (the bastard child of BMW) So I'm revving up while my friend wrestles with his seatbelt and grabs the oh shit handle. Next I hear this awful noise over my music, I look left and there is some POS 1980 something ford focus. on a doughnut and one of the front tires is bent inward at almost 45 degrees. So Im like, yeah, whatever.... Anyway. Light turns green and the S-10 sqwaks out while the F-150 fu**in tows it about 5 cl's. So i'm stuck behind the s-10. I wait for the damn focus to get outta my way and shoot past the s-10 while my buddies waves good bye to the s-10 which is giving everything cause it sounds like its gonna explode. All I really care about is the F-150. I hit 2nd and the focus disappears in my rear view mirrior (which I can't see out of cause the subs are vibrating it to the point to where its all a blur). My chest is fluttering with each hit of the subs and Im gaining fast on the F-150 who has slowed down to cruising speed. We stop at the next light and we're finally side by side. I decided to behave cause cops are everywhere that night. But the bastard revvs anyway. So I give a retort. I look over and notice that to compliment his supercharger he's got atleast a 3 inch lift kit and larger than OEM tires. So now im thinking he's more of an offroader than a racer so I lessen my expectations of him. Light goes green, I burn up 1st and its dead even (anybody with a 318 knows 1st gear is worthless, I've never gotten it to not bog, maybe cause I suck, I dunno). I hit 2nd and start pulling on him. I hit 3rd and watch his front end dissappear from the corner of my eye. At about 4th I had 2 CL's and I hear him give up as he lets out his clutch and slows dramatically. Sure, it was a truck, but he thought he was hot shit. I ended up being followed by the focus all night who kept trying to race me. Poor bastard.

Nice job on the f-150, it was a truck but those things aren't too slow. and fyi, they didn't make the slowcus in the 80's. it mayhave been a festiva, or an escort. nice story though.

The whole time I'm reading this, I'm thinking "2 Fast 2 Furious"

I think the F150 driver didn't even know you were racing, he was probably just accelerating normally My parents' F-150 would make short work of a 318, and at the end of the race, could still run over you , and you're saying this one was supercharged.

Dude, any non SVT focus is slow. I worked at a Ford dealership and I demoed one at least 4 times a week (usually once a day). I have been around them. Any FYI, my GEO STORM owned them, it would also make quick work or a 318, but that is besides the point. Don't even try to tell me that a stock non SVT (or RS if you live on the other side of the pond) is fast because they just aren't.

OK!!! Damn. If ya'll read up top. Focus wasnt made in the 80's. It was an 80's escort that looked like something cheech and chong would drive. Second, no, i'm not sure if it was supercharged, but I could hear the distinct whine of one (my friend has a supercharged '70 El Camino SS) I have the 1.8L. And hey, I'm just as suprised as you are 'bout the whole thing. Maybe he wasn't racing, but the way he was driving I don't see how it couldn't have been. We both got up to 80 in a 35. So if thats "accelerating normally" then whatever. A few other things. With my car, I've smoked plenty O' focus. And if you can't beat a civic in a 318is then your a worthless driver. Cause I have no problems. Last one I ate was a auto about a 97 I'd guess. My car is 100% stock. I added ///M racing pedals, maybe if I follow ricer logic that adds 50 rwhp. I dunno. Maybe I know how to drive it. Can't tell ya. I got no reason to lie about it. The only reason I posted it is cause my car impressed me, thats all. And stock blazers should not be a problem w/ for a 318is. Yeah, if you look @ the numbers, it don't add up, but it all comes down the to the driver, experience, and balls. Vs. Any car. None of the one's I raced had a big enough power advantage to compensate for any of those being awful.

    LOL at the NOS joke.

Raise your flag if you want buddy. But I'll I'm sayin is we ran it up to 80 and it was pretty much dead even. Maybe he wasn't trying, maybe he had some aftermarket Diffs on his rear end. Like I said, he had it rigged for offroading/rock climbing. it was a beast...prolly weighed a whole hell of a lot from what I could see. he had the roll bar, winches on front and back. not to mention offroading tires.....equiped for a race I'm will all of you in that I would have been smoked. All I'm saying is that as equip. I beat him....BARELY. with some street tires and with much less of a drag profile, I was toast sure....but not as he was set up. It looked much like something you'd see on a cover of an offroad or Trucks! magazine. I can see how you can't believe me because I myself do not consider my car fast at all. I was suprised so I deemed it post worthy

I think it's silly how quick people are to decide that a given kill couldn't have happened. You can quote all the specs you like, but in real life there're too many variables.

Huge offroad tires effectively make your gearing higher, and as I know from my 325 auto (2.00 first ),tall gearing can be the death of you from a stoplight. Maybe the F150 had shitty software for his SC. Look at all the posts in the FI forum where people have what should be a sweet setup but it isn't working right for any number of reasons. There are dozens of ways that a car that "should" be fast can fail to perform on a given day.

Let's just give Volf some props for flogging his little four-banger to stand up to the big bad F150 that was clearly the heavy favorite.
The weak and the failures shall perish, and they shall be given every possible assistance.

325i auto.: 18" SSR GT1s/BFG KDW2s, NX wet kit with all the goodies, Cosmos CAI, Koni Sport suspension kit, H&R sway bars.
