http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/131...mp-elimination
It's been about 10 months since I installed the SAP simulator and no check engine light or other codes pointing to cats problems. I did have concern about effect on cats, but realistically, the SAP is US only emission thing and the European 528 with same ECU don't have the SAP from factory.
I just passed the emission testing and that was the reason for this update in case anybody is like me who don't want to pay $300 for something that's really not necessary on E39.
Obviously, do your homework and your local emission testing might be more strict.
I bought my simulator here:http://e36-electronic.com/ .The kit is excellent quality and no problems so far.

I have also had the same simulator on my 540 for almost a year and it works great no issues and no codes.

On an M62TU! Nice. Thought I'd read at some point that these wouldn't work on the TU's cause the DME is expecting to see an effect on O2 sensor readings resulting from the operation of the pump... that even though you could make the DME think the pump was there, you couldn't make it think it was working properly.
I would consider removing my pump just to simplify under the hood a little (pump, hoses, pipe across the front of the engine that are in the way of any work done around there).
You could contact the link I provided. It's actually one individual who's been very helpful in my case and I'm sure he can provide you with more info before you commit to buy. Obviously, it's "off road only" which is basically saying it's not really legal. I'd make sure if you can pass emission in your local area before you buy it.
540San, which car and model year did you have this install? TIA.
The unit I got was a prototype of what is sold now and it plugs in line with both pre cat o2 sensors as well as the pumps power wire. It immulates a lean condition when power is turned on to the pump. I have my secondary air pump unplugged and my vacuum valve blocked off and it still works great no cels.

Old Thread Revival:
I'm looking to do the SAI/SAP delete (I've had mine coded out already), and had a couple questions..
I'm not too familiar with the SAI system, so I just want to make sure I cover all my bases.
1) How many block-off plates will I need to purchase?
2) Is there a guide anywhere for the SAI delete?
3) Do I also need to block off any vacuum line ports?
Any information to guide me in doing this SAI delete is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks.

I'm looking to do this as well. Info on the block off plates would be great.
I did happen to find the actual upper timing case cover part numbers that do not have the holes, its a Euro part:
01 Timing case cover, top ZYL.1-4 1 09/1998 11141745506 $96.98 +core
02 Timing case cover, top ZYL.5-8 1 09/1998 11141745509 $96.98 +core

Looks like I found a block-off plate on ECS

The benefit being not having a vacuum cleaner sound from your bumper on cold starts and you don't have to replace the expensive pump motor, crack prone hoses, or vacuum actuated valve that sticks from carbon build up.

The holes for the air pump tube are in the heads, not the upper timing covers.
you prob need to remove the valve and block off the metal tube where the valve was.
btw my black plastic tube fell off the sap and it sounds amazing the way it gurgles at cold start up until the sap turns off and the valve closes. It sounds like if Lamborghini made a motorboat powered Harley.

Here is a DIY I did a few years ago for installing the SAP Sim on an I6- http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=724739
Works great and pretty easy to do.
I6's are easy to fab or find a block off plate for. V8 not so much. As jim says those are in the head. Best angle is probably to cut up your SAP tubes and make them into stub plugs.

I'm thinking about doing this on my M62...be nice to rid the engine of all that extra junk and tubing.

I saw a blower kit (forgot brand) that would relocate the piping, but no delete it. The paperwork for the kit said that if you needed to delete the piping going into the heads, you would need to basically figure it out on your own lol

I'm not well versed in the rest of the emissions system parts but I was hoping to do the SAP delete with block-offs fabbed from the stock pipes, then remove all the tubing, pump, wiring, and anything on top of the engine like those little valves and that diverter valve at the front right of the M62TU that is noisy and doesn't really fit well after the VF kit.

The website says 6 cyl only, im glad to see 540 owners are reporting that it works on 8 cyl as well....
Did you order simulator with or without o2 sensor connects?
