I have a 1998 318ti and a smashed running 1994 325i convertible.
I am trying to find more info on the wiring because i will be converting the ti to obd1.
I have done some searching and have not come up with much.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
thank you
There is another forum that is 318ti specific and all your questions about swaps can be found in that forum.
Definitely more info on ti swaps on the 318ti.org forum. I just finished a M52 conversion on my 1995. I would say what you are trying to do is going to be A LOT of work. I am not aware of anyone on the 318ti forum who has tried to convert their car to OBD1. That would require swapping out the body harness to OBD1. Most people either buy an engine to match their car control type, or like me convert an OBD2 engine to OBD1 which is pretty straight forward. I don't think its possible to convert your engine to OBD2 for instance the OBD2 crank sensor won't fit on your block. I would recommend selling the M50 and sourcing an M52.
you can put an obd1 engine in the ti without any issues as far as running goes. wont pass emissions though because your obd2 port wont be hooked up
trying to convert the whole car to obd1 will not be worth it. it would be easier to buy an entire obd1 car
