Coming Back... 98 E36 M3 LS swap Drift car build thread

Alright guys some of you have seen my multiple year to year build threads on my green e30. The car was great finally had it tuned in October 2012 at Technica Motorsports and was running 600whp / 470wtrq.. drifted it a few times.. took it down the strip, and drifted it again and broke it. After all that work i had a sudden change of heart and realized i need to get into my own place and Cut the car up into about 14 pieces, sold my Duramax Truck and trailer. All in All it was a great 2013 year for me, and yes it sucked not being able to get seat time in a race car the whole year i ended up with the image below.

With all that said Here are some pics of the up and coming slow drift car build. If you have any questions Please feel free to PM me or ask.

I also Picked up The following

    1. 02 T56 6spd with 38K
    2. FAST LSXR 102 Intake manifold

That is all for now i will update with pics as things either get ordered or done to the shell, which im focusing on first instead of the motor.

    Thanks guys,

I was given an ATL 15gallon Fuel cell that needs a new bladder so with that im going to cut the rear of the car out and tube it and with the Feloney Form Over's from Oli those cover a good amount of rear 1/4 so its all going to get cut out and braced. I also have been imspired by one of the newest E30 build threads by GeorgeC and his awsome build.. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...urbo-NOS-Built

Finally I'm finished with this stuff. I got lucky and the PO of this car had already removed the tar that was under the rear seat and somewhat in the trunk.

I have to photo's with a water bottle next to it just to show the amount that came out. The weight of this pile was 20lbs.

Also does anyone know what i should use to removed the residue off the floor.

I used mineral spirits and a plastic scraper. Maybe a green scotch pad but it dulled the OE finish on mine.

im not worried about the finish its going to get caged and painted, i just want to get all the stuff off of the floor so i dont have to wire wheel the entire thing.

I would try the scotch brite pad and either alcohol or acetone since you don't care about the finish....

I used a heavy duty tar remover and some serious elbow grease but for some of the gunk I did have to use a wire wheel, but the results came out great after I epoxed it

I have started the long and time consuming process of stripping the engine bay for stitch welding.. O joy.

That's all i have for now.

Don't bother with the gas tank really, the stock E36 is lower, better PmI (sits within the wheelbase) and way safer than having a fuel cell behind the rear axle. Just run a swirl pot and call it a day.

Love the color BTW, Avus ?

    Sean,

If the stock tank is so worth it why do all FD cars run fuel cells. My drift car is being built to FD spec with plans to go as far as FD Pro2. I also wanted a smaller fuel tank gallon wise.

as for the avus m3 in my drive way, that was bought for $2500 and was an auto that ended up blowing out the headgasket instead of into the cylinders. I also found rust holes In the passenger side strut tower, so the car was parted out.

i did how ever pick up another avus m3 for a daily that ended up being a non lux black interior non sunroof 5spd for $4860

Here is a pick of the 5spd

    Wow, Avus non-sunroof. Awesome.

As far as FD, I can't speak for Essa, but none of Chelsea's cars have had a fuel cell. Stock tank within the wheelbase is awesome, and you don't blow yourself up when you back her into a wall. Even V8 supercars banned having the fuel cell in the back after a huge explosion in 2012, and whats-his-face with the 1JZ S13 blowed up his car at FD PBIR last year just hitting the tire wall.

Not tryin to be critical, wouldn't waste the money on it though, sell it for good cash and put an 044+ swirl pot. The only thing after the rear axle should be taillights:diffuser:wing. Personally I'd cut the frame rails off, seal the trunk holes and pour polyurethane foam. Let it expand until level with the trunk floor. Badass crash structure that'll never bend your chassis in a rear hit.

Im in the same boat. I plan on running a swirl pot, but where can I put it. Id have to completely seal the pass. compartment from the trunk area. And there are a lot of friggin holes in the rear bulkhead.
