I'll join in this love-fest; just bought my 14 328XD Sedan just under 2 weeks ago and I am loving it so far. I came from a VW Golf diesel, so I actually took a mileage hit, but it is pretty minimal (went from 40-42 mpg to 38-40 mpg so far).

Out of curiosity, how many people here came from VW settlement buybacks?
Not so many people here, but quite noticeable on several other forums.

Most people get better mileage than what you're seeing - but possibly you're doing more city driving. I've seen many reports of 45+ mpg on highway runs.

I think you'll probably see a few more filtering in here as they complete their VW buybacks. I know of at least 3 or 4 who bought BMW diesels already

Yeah, I was expecting a bit higher. My golf was rated at very similar numbers (30/42) but I was able to average pretty much 42 mpg on my commute. I was hoping to do similar with this car, though I figured in stop-and-go traffic it would drop a bit harder due to weight and AWD. I also have the luxury line model, so it has 18s which may lower its FE a little compared to normal models with 17s?

Either way; if I can stay above 35 mpg I'm fine with that. Overall it is worth a slight FE hit for the improved ride, luxury, and added power.

I've noticed a couple of MPGs less on my 2016 328d than my Audi A3 TDI, but still (almost) always above 40. The last couple of days were an exception: I had the cruise set in 88 on I-10 across Texas. MPGs dropped to 38-39 but it was worth it!

Also noting that my 328 is an X-Drive, which in itself loses a couple of MPGs.

Nice numbers Bob; one other thing that occurred to me earlier for us VW (and Audi) transplants: VW/Audi engines did better than their EPA numbers precisely because of the cheat; so meeting those figures in another car that is not cheating the EPA test cycle may be a little harder...

Good point! I hadn't thought of it but now that you mention it it's obvious.

My 2012 328i 4-cylinder, 250hp turbo can deliver 17.1km/litre (40.2 mpg) on ECO mode simply going the speed limit. If I drove the speed limit for a full tank of gas (60 litre tank), I can get OVER a 1000 kilometer range!! I could probably better that consumption rating on 80 km/hr rated roads, but I wanted a real world (for me) figure. I would say, given the cost of gas vs. diesel, that it might be even more cost efficient! My average consumption is 14.8 to 14.9 km/litre. I am amazed at how fuel efficient this car is!

    Welcome aboard!

Mine is now over 70k miles and averaging about 38mpg through the winter. I expected a slight hit for winter driving so no biggie there.

I'd just committed to purchase of a 2014 BMW 328d, and made the buyback appt. at my dealership to turn in my 09 Jetta TDI. Loved the Jetta and hate to let it go, but the money part of it is a no brainer. For just a few thousand more than my buyback amount, I'm getting a newer car with less than half the milage, and a quality/luxury upgrade. Woohoo!

BMW fan, partial VW tdi fan. Love my 328d wagon. Great gas mileage, even greater power (now).
