M5 Shift Surround Ideas (Auto guys looks too)

Was thinking of adding the shifter location display thing and or potentially more modern setups like the e38 with a more finished look. Looks great! Can certainly add in any options you guys want, will start playing with modifications this week. Glad to see so much interest!

How easily can the auto shift knob be made to work for a manual car? I'd love to have that shifter on my 6 speed.

Pretty sure the manual shift lever is a bunch thicker than the autobox variety. Making the correct manual knob stay on is challenge enough.

Thats an interesting idea but with the way the shifter sits and the lack of room I don't know of many options besides doing something like the E39 setup and possibly including an insert for the ash tray. IIRC another member had a design for a cupholder insert for the ash tray that we could try and work in, I actually have his files but would want to discuss using them with him. Another option is potentially something like the E46 has and having cup holders near the ebrake but that would require a bit of work from what I've seen, possibly even a new rear console integrating the E46 cup holder modules. Which at that point it would be worth trying to add an armrest off the E46 as well . . .

So I'm wrapping up a few prior obligations but I'm going to purchase some ABS material this week. Again guys I'm open to working with people privately for one offs (surrounds and other parts) you just have to PM me and keep in mind that it wont be as cheap as the stock style. At the moment I see two main variations of the surround, please add to the list if you have ideas:

-Stock style M5 surround
-Stock style M5 surround w/ ASC cutout

If you do a stock auto style w/ASC & gauges then I'd be interested. Not sure what would work better for the gauge panel, angled to match the ASC panel, or more vertical.

I've got a spare stock auto surround from another M-Sport if you need one for any dimensions. But the spare one I have is non-ASC.

Haha if you're serious I would think more like the first pic. Could even add in a clear shift pattern off a illuminated knob and the LED. Honestly its not to my taste in the E34 but we could definitely do some interesting stuff if you really want.

Hey guys! I think I've got enough material stockpiled. I'll get pictures up of a stock reproduction and then I'll send one out to someone on the forum to review for you guys. Custom stuff would be fairly simple but let's get an unbiased review and we can go from there. Remember these will have to be covered in whatever material you want and by you.
