M5 Shift Surround Ideas (Auto guys looks too)

So the M5 shift surrounds are pretty much no longer available in most colors now and a few people have expressed interest in a custom setup that could be used on the automatic cars. I know myself and CleverTD have CAD files of the shift surround and it should be easy enough to make custom modifications to the surround to allow it to work with the automatic gear lever and even if people are willing to work with me integrate other options (E38 automatic shifter, gauges, etc.) . So with the designs done the parts would be 3D printed and then you would be responsible to have the piece covered in leather, vinyl, alcantara, carbon, whale foreskin, really whatever your heart desires. I could potentially find someone to do it locally but at additional cost. Lets here your opinions!

Really the big question is, what would the cost's be? Can it be comparable if not better than OE?

And as someone who's never had experience with anything that's been 3D printed, what is the durability like?

The parts will be in the 50-100 range for just a replacement, custom stuff I don't really want to price. Durability depends mainly on material choice and a few other things but I doubt many of you treat your shift surround harder than some of the equipment I use 3D printing on in my day job and I can print in anything from ABS (Stock part) to Ultem. Aesthetics will be determined by how you have the piece covered.

Oooooh, one w/gauges would be quite nice. Even nicer if it was for an ASC+T car..

    I'd be interested.
i dont need anything fancy like whale foreskin but would like to see what other features could be worked in to the design.
    3D printing is AWESOME!

I'm in for at least one, maybe two, dependent on price and the availability of baby whale foreskin.

But seriously, yes, I want one for a manual trans.

3D printing is overkill. You could make a router jig and whip these out from MDF one every 5 minutes for as long as you care to bother. I've thought about doing it, but the market is too flaky. No offense dudes. Plus I assumed that everyone would balk at the need to cover it themselves.

What's the cost? I'd cover it myself.

How easily can the auto shift knob be made to work for a manual car? I'd love to have that shifter on my 6 speed.

I would be in for one unit with 3 gauge pods, abs plastic would be my choice. Things are easier to glue to abs than other materials.

I would be in for a replacement in ABS. Any chance of a cutout for the ASC button panel? Sorry for the lowball earlier!

I don't know the difference in diameters of the levers, but the handle is typically secured by an Allen screw on the front. Mine kept falling out and has been Mia for quite some time.
Find a handle at a yard and play around with fitting it on your shift lever?

Was thinking of adding the shifter location display thing and or potentially more modern setups like the e38 with a more finished look. Looks great! Can certainly add in any options you guys want, will start playing with modifications this week. Glad to see so much interest!

Leo custom pistol grip ? Would be easy to do!

Sounds like a project with great potential, would love to see some different variations. I never cared for the gear designation thing on the side, and it shows it in the dash anyway. That's just me though.
