Insane: there's an OEM, LHD surround on eBay asking $500 right now
This will be much cheaper.

I would take one for LHD. I didn´t read the whole threat, but is ist only a file for a 3D printer or an already made M5 shift ?
Please put me down for one, additional contact email is Darch@gmx.us

I'm hoping on early 2018 but there's not been any updates on this for a while so who knows. As someone wrote earlier, I'm just happy to be on the list if they do get produced at any point in time.
We've moved the priority for this project up since the list has grown, just settling on a few details:
-Production method (probably injection molding)
-Whether to offer them covered or not
-Price
It will be early 2018 for sure, we're setting up a more formal method to process orders, payment, shipments, etc.
Apologies for the delays! I know this has been on the table for years now but I've only been involved a few months.

Happy 4 year thread birthday tomorrow!
I keed, I keed.... Lol! Looking forward to this.
Haha I'm definitely slow! You guys can thank Bleedsblue for getting me back on track. Like was mentioned before in another thread we're moving towards a more formal business entity with all of these parts and you'll see a few changes in the near future on the forum and a web presence that will make it easier to work with us. Thanks for being patient everyone and I'm sure you'll like what you see in the coming months.

The plan is to have a physical product to demo and photo by the end of this week. A website for processing orders on this, and other products, is in the queue.
We're seeing a few other sources producing replicas of this part, but we plan to out-perform them all. Stay tuned.

Peoples: Update as promised!
Greg is holding this prototype in his Shiner-sweatin' grubby paws:
This is one of the latest-stage prototypes for fitment, fresh off the 3D printer. The production units will be ... tbd.
Our design, as promised, has replaceable mounting clips and tabs on the underside. This proprietary feature ensures long term durability (especially during R & R) and places this product, dare we say, in a league above competitors offering an M5-style shift surround, and even above the OEM part.
A partnership is being developed for professionally covering these units in a number of BMW leather options, Alcantara, and carbon fiber.
As mentioned before, we haven’t forgotten about custom options such as gauge pods or auto button cut-outs, and we will be happy to do those on an individual basis.
-------
If you notice the bottom right logo in the prototype image: we are launching a new business called AAS in the next month or two, with 10-12 custom E34-centric products (to include the aluminum underdrive M60 pullies and fire extinguisher bracket, among others). Purchase of these products will be handled through a dedicated website, going live in the same time frame.
This endeavor has been nursed to life in the past few months by several of us who were already busy, so I offer a heartfelt apology from us, for those who have been waiting for these products. They are coming, and we will ensure the wait will be worth it in the perfected design, thoughtful business model, and professional approach.

Design finalized, we've been busy researching and testing:
- Covering material
- Adhesive for that ^
- Production method and material to match our volume
We have locked down a true OEM supplier of leather. This means we'll be buying an entire cow (ok, hide) at a time, one of which should cover about 40 shift surrounds. More to come on this intriguing supplier...
Close to choosing an adhesive, we plan to offer warranties against the leather lifting: like send it back, and we'll re-adhere it, at no cost. We have some good test climates to beat these things in, in the meantime!
Despite the lower per-unit cost of injection molding, we don't love you guys and gals enough to fork over the ~$10k this mold would cost. Plus, that approach really inhibits custom or RHD units. We'd have to sell 100+ of any design to get close to making out even on a mold.
Thus, thanks to the proliferation of carbon, we will be offering the world's first prepreg carbon fiber M5 shift surround . It's almost a shame to cover them with leather! (Maybe we should offer them uncovered?) Replaceable clips will still be in metal.
We are gearing up for a first production run in mid-March, of standard LHD units. Final design teaser below! Watch our site and Instagram/social media for updates!
Wow carbon fibre! Surely the weight savings will make my car go faster!
Every bit counts right, haha!
Leather samples made it in! We will be doing black initially as well as a parchment match a short time after. We are also open to custom options in different colors, materials (Alcantara, bare carbon) and design tweaks (gauges, USB, wireless charging etc). Check in for updates guys and be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook (when I figure it out, so old).

How's this going?
At risk of ending up with a douchey-looking interior, and despite already having a genuine M5 surround sitting in a box somewhere, I'm very interested in a raw carbon unit. Depends on final price. Black leather also acceptable.
I think we'll offer options - one thing to consider, is that we won't be optimizing the weave for a symmetrical pattern like you're used to with OEM carbon fiber beauty covers. I'll try and get a sample photo of the aesthetic. We will have OEM buffalo leather as an option, though
Apparently you could sell the OEM unit on eBay for like $500! Greg and I have both found that many of the newer OEM shift surrounds have cosmetic issues out of the box.
These will be unique for us in terms of hands-on labor required to manufacture, so due to the time commitment required we will likely have to take deposits on these. Not to mention, we are seriously going broke paying for our materials
