With a muffler delete theres no badges needed. The sound will speak for itself and have people wondering what is really under that hood...

Purplecty, that is exactly right. The muffler delete is very likely to happen, so badge-less is what I'm gonna go with.

I had to re-read that last one Purplecty a couple of times to make sure I got it right, LOL.

On your airbox issue. Use E38 750 boxes and horns. Unless you have to modify a lot, as the 750 box is nearly identical to what you are using and the mounting points are already there for a left air box, you will eliminate your clearance issues and have the dual air boxes.

Can't wait for the finished product!

No, its not the engine air filter boxes, its the cabin filter housings that are in the hood.

Correct. The 750 air boxes are totally wrong for this application due to them being narrower and angled towards the firewall, which will not work.

Ok, I've got another pretty good update for you guys.

This past weekend, I got the wiring issues figured out and we were able to bump the starter using the key, but I found out that the VAG-COM cable that I have isn't the absolute perfect one that works with the bmwflash software that I was going to use to download the DME firmware in order to delete the EWS code. It detects my PA Soft 1.4.0 cable, but I have confirmed from the developer of bmwflash that it is proprietary and incompatible. So now, I've ordered a Galletto 1260 cable, which will hopefully come in before next weekend. Otherwise we would have been able to start the engine and see if it runs.

That being said, here's what else we got done. We put the exhaust on and mated the old style cat sections to the facelifted rear section, got the O2 sensors installed and connected, installed the new stainless brake hoses, bled them as well as the clutch slave cylinder, reinstalled the fender liners, test fit the radiator, fan shroud and expansion tank, and began modifying the hood for clearance.

I only have a few parts left that need to be installed and it will be ready for an alignment and should be ready to roll the next time I go to Alabama to work on it (likely this weekend).

    Here are some pics:

    Exhaust:

    Brake lines:

    Hood:

The hood cuts still need to be welded up and painted, but they're definitely going to work. The cabin air filters should still work too.

The garage cleaned up and ready for both cars to fit.

Definitely will be video of the startup. I didn't feel like making videos before, because there just didn't seem to be anything interesting enough to require video, but when we actually start it, that will definitely be interesting enough.

    Suck
If it were me, and I couldn't get the car to start because of EWS, in the meantime I would run power to the starter to turn the engine over to prime it. Crank it over until the oil light goes away. Much safer than just firing it up after sitting.

I can spin it on the starter just fine with the key. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll do that before we officially fire it up.

Isn't the ews rolling code table stored on a different chip separately from the dme firmware? I thought that was the case with the me7.2. For the m62tu. Maybe its different for the m5 dme.

Aright guys, I was hoping that this update was going to be the really good one, but alas, my galletto 1260 cable did not come in last Friday like I expected and I wasn't able to get the DME modified to remove EWS, but that doesn't mean I didn't do anything on the car.

Some engine bay shots: (The hood is removed in order to do some welding to fill the gaps from our cuts and that is being done this week)

The engine bay is pretty much completely assembled except the M5 coolant hose going to the expansion tank is a bit bigger than the 740i expansion tank, so we need to make an adapter for the hose and then we fill it with some antifreeze and she'll be ready to get an alignment and get on the road (of course after the galletto comes in).

Interior Shots: (Cluster front piece isn't secured yet since I still need to make sure the tach needle is set correctly and I need the engine running to do that)

She's going to need a major bath after we're done. Sport button is wired and ready to go, console is fully assembled and so is the dash under the steering wheel. I still need to run one more wire to the new DMTL leak detection pump which will need to run from the left rear wheel well, into the trunk, along the floor and all the way to the E-Box. Then I need to run two wires from the where the general module is to the E-box for the servotronic to work. The M5 DME handles servotronic rather than the GM. That's going to be a bit of a pain since the glove box is a pain to remove apparently. She's got all the wheels mounted and I think she's going to sit just a little bit lower in the front due to the added weight of the engine, but only a little since now it's a manual instead of an auto.

This coming weekend will be a good weekend assuming my cable comes in. The seller said USPS can't find it, so he's sending me another and before I knew that, I placed an order through someone else as well. I have three chances of getting a cable by next weekend, so fingers crossed, we'll get the car on the road for some shakedown runs. Then she'll be coming home the following weekend. I can't wait for that since driving nearly 1000 miles a week since Thanksgiving is getting rough.

Also, look for some parts to be posted in the classifieds soon. I've got an M62TU to part out as well as a good 5hp24 transmission and related ecu's. I also have a set of both pre-cats and cats for the TU, some M5 front struts/springs, M5 brake rotors (no calipers), transmission support bracket and even some used but decent transmission mounts, a stock 540i shifter, a 540i pedal bracket for pre-facelift, and a few more things.

Looks great! I'm sure you're chomping at the bit to get her running. Thanks again for the detailed write up, that's gonna be a blast to drive! Not sure if you ever heard of Simeon from the E38 board, he was a pioneer in manual tranny supercharged E-38's, he'd love this swap

Thanks!!! I really am chomping at the bit. I have heard of Simeon's "Baby" and it is a sweet ride and one of the cars that inspired me to do this. I always figured it was possible, but now I know it is. I hope he sees mine and comments, it would be a huge honor.
