yeah, matter of fact, i cracked a header tube backing out a bolt, The metal is quite thin and fragile. Had another crack in the inner bend of another tube when I removed it(explains powerloss), This was DD til the stock twins crapped out, then i went single and tried an ebay mani, that didnt last and went with a MTR mani, solid! BTW Nice build you have there!

Hmmm. Ok. I had intended on trying to brace mine some more. You guys have any experience with that?

That is a 62-1 but i have had a pt72 on there. It's tough with these ebay manis, i order a specific one from a specific place and it seems to fit big turbos alright. i once had a t3 xssautochrome or some other BS like that and we couldn't even bolt on to the head it was so bad.

I guess the right mani is crucial

Absolutely. They WILL crack, reinforced or not. With reinforcement you will get some more time out of it. I drift and so do my clients so we put it through a higher level of stress than the average, the manifolds glow after every run. I'm going on 3 years with same mani luckily but am ready to replace at any moment.

MTR is nice, quicksilver also makes a good and more affordable manifold.

Reinforce the runners to the flange to the head with tabs. Then go from the turbo inlet flange to the head flange with small stainless rod and support the wastegate pipe wherever.

And I run 2 fans, one is on the driver side pulling and the other is on the passenger side but pushing. They are both 12" Spal fans, but i would run them shrouded, if this was a street car, it would get hot sitting in traffic for sure.

Oh ok. Good to know. What radiator are you running?

Is there even room for a shroud up front? From what I have seen it it tight up front..?

The tabs are there for the runners, I'll add the ss rod.

I'm using a mk3 supra oem replacement rad, which gets hot after hard runs. It's fine on the street though.

And there is tons of room for fans and shrouding, i guess the angle of the pics make it harder but you can probably even fit a modified clutch fan set up in there if you wanted to.

    Thanks!

That is the same suggestion I got from another guy for a radiator..looks like I too will take that route. I will figure out something for the fans once the motor is set in the car I suppose. I want to be able to drive this everyday if I so desire, so something that will be okay in traffic is a must (not usually sitting in traffic). I am also keeping the a/c, cruise, etc..

What are you guys using for a clutch? I was going to go with an act 6 puck sprung disc, with a oem pressure plate...was suggested by a buddy who ran this on his s366 sc300 until he went to a twin disc.

Also, found the suggestion of using a 92-94 camry throttle cable...anyone else use that or just make your own?

Best clutch single plate clutch is the HPF clutch and HD ACT PP IMO. All the cheap assed toyota dudes get oem clutches and upgraded PPs, i've never mixed and matched that way but i wouldn't upgrade the clutch itself and leaving a stock PP on there. It WILL slip, they have minimal clamping force.

I use a Lokar carb throttle cable, just cut to fit and it's good to go.

I'll try to post pics up this weekend if the rain doesn't get to me first! I forgot to mention im also running a supra mk3 rad on dual electric fans, used the biggest fans i can fit in there and its a tight space up front, but it works.

Nice! A 67mm seems to be a popular choice for a wide range of power goals on these motors from what I have seen in my limited exposure to them..

You may run into boost creep problems with an ebay manifold.. pump gas and "that" 67mm will easily push through a single gate if it's too small. You'll need to find a 60mm or 66mm wastegate. Or run twin wastegates.

E85 will amplify the boost creep problem.

Hmmm...interesting. Even if I recirc the wastegate into the exhaust? Suggestions on a 60+ mm gate? This is the first I have heard of a potential boost creep issue with this setup...

modern 67's are flowing too much air. Recirc will not help. The Sound performance guys are finding that yesterdays single 46mm wastegate cannot keep up with the modern 67mm and started to only sell their manifolds with giant singles and twin gates.
sorry, I don't have any recommendations.

I'm keen to see the pics.
im also going to attempt this swap on a LHD so I have a ton of questions.
    For now though,
-did you need to modify the crossmember to get the engine to fit?
    -what mounts are you using?

We will not have to mod the crossmember. We are actually building the mounts ourselves. I have a set of the k's racing mounts but we are not using them because we decided to build our own and possibly make a few sets. But I have seen the k's mounts used with great success by many others.

You could look into CX racings New thick walled manifolds that they are turning out. However its really starting to go up in price now. Im using a bike brake cable on my set up with a barrel on the pedal end

I will look into the manifold, depending on price I might just have one made down the road when this one fails.

Before buying my engine I wanted to ask a question from the info I have read they say that the only difference between the 2j front sump and rear sump is the oil pan is this correct? I'm thinking about buying this engine what do you guys think??
