had a quick play indoors with it, and updated it, will side load google play on it when i get a spare min or two!
But started to mod and fabriate a mount for it.
Took a spare 4.3 face plate and cut the button bars out and a small amount of filling, so will keep the wooden surround
think i will fill the sides up eventually with some small black leather sections.
a few temp shots.
Let us know how you like it... I remember the reviews were less than glowing so hopefully you have better results.
Agreed, and I hope it works well for you.
Myself, I've been considering making a removable custom housing out of extruded polystyrene covered in leather for a tablet, which would fit over the stock radio. Haven't gotten past the consideration stage however, but it looks good in my head. Hehehe
That was my thinking as well. I'm a bit of an android fan, so having to use an obsolete version of the os on potentially lackluster hardware sounded more aggravating than anything. A Nexus 7 might just fit nicely, although I've never thrown a tape measure to the dash to confirm.
Sorry for the threadjack fil.
Looks very nice. Well done.
have to say that looks really nice
I've been happy with my parrot so far. I think you'll enjoy it. The only thing is when I went to the iPhone 5 I lost the functionality of rewinding or fast forwarding on the screen. Also lost the ability to use voice command to search for a specific song or artist. I also have to hook up via Bluetooth. As the parrot doesn't recognize the iPhone via the hardwire. It still charges my phone thank goodness. I called parrot and they said they were working on an update to make the iPhone 5 work with everything.

anyone else come in here expecting a bird?
So its all fitted and running, tried to kep the factory phone running via the speakers hands free, but it just dont like it loads of interferance,
didnt bother with the 6 1/2' in the front as found some spare 5 1/4"s so no cutting required
did run into a snag fitting the HU the usb plugs fouled the heater system, so had to remove a bit of plastic, and fit a flat bit back in its place.
only issue now, it something drained my battery! car wont start, hope to get a meter on it tomorrow, maybe something to do with havent the factory HU unpluged?
fronts
modded heater box
finished
I have to say the fit and finish looks very nice with the leather and factory wood surround.
I currently have my Android phone running through the factory screen using the TV module, but having the touch screen is very nice. How did you mount the tablet in the surround?
The next question would be how someone could do this with the factory audio and OBC functionality.
Also, how do the JBLs sound? What model are they?

mounted very err lashed up! used some stereo metal straping pieces, bent at 90o, that were bolted to the HU, and stapled in place to the mdf, that had been lightly super glued in place, photo of that, then once all positioned, built up and secured with fibre glass to the original bmw wooden frame, no photos of that.
As for the jbls, the rear kit is, GTO6-5C , quite low end and the front not sure was bits and bobs i allready had spare, but the sound is soo much better than the tired 17yr old bmw paper speakers
rears the tweeters fitted into the original mounts directly!

Awesome work. Love how you installed the radio.
I have seen the mid in glove boxes a couple times. Still not sure why people do it. If it's not there does something not work? I'm just wondering what you would want to look at the mid for.
