Can you direct me to the location of the A/C resistor in my 1988 E24. Thanks
It's a transistor, not a resistor. It sits on top of the evaporator.
The transistor on its mounting bracket is part 17 in the attached diagram.
By all accounts it's a barrel of laughs getting at it. I ain't (yet) BTDT.

It's not too bad. You do need to remove the glove box to get at it, though. It is on the right (passenger) side of the main evaporator duct, not on top as seems to be indicated in the diagram above.
Once you have removed the glove box, it is essentially "right there." I will make a note that I hate working under the dash for this and any other project that requires it. I have "asked" one or the other of my children, who thankfully are old enough now to do more harm than good, to help with the remove/install of the glove box. They seem to be able to tolerate standing on their heads and looking up much better than I.

Just changed mine, it looks like that . you have to remove the covering in your glove box. it would be just on the left next to the evaporator. easy to spot. after i changed it, all worked well. But there is one place to check first, the one that Taylor has mentioned, if this does not fix the issue THEN, you check the one in the glove compartment.

I failed to explain that the issue that I'm having, which is that the a/c fan only works on HIGH speed. No other speed works, except High. What do you think could be the problem. Transistor or ... resistor or something else. This is a new car for me - I never worked on this model. If you have any questions about 2002's - I'm your man. :-)
Sorry for the delay in responding to your earlier messages, but truly appreciated seeing the help from you all.
If the other blower for the heat / defrost that is located under the cowling in the engine bay is working properly at variable speeds then your problem is surely the transistor associated with the a/c blower previously described in this post.
If both blowers are only working at high speed then the suspect list would be as follows in no special order:
1) bad potentiometer in the on dash blower speed control dial - unfixable and you'll need to replace the whole switch
or
2) bad transistor in the on dash blower speed control dial - solder in a new one like I did in the attached pic
or
3) both blower motors' transistors are fried - solder in new ones
or
4) severe fermion imbalance - unfixable / scrap the car

Is the A/C blower transistor "buttton" the same part number that I used to repair heater blower circuit board, or is it a different spec?

The transistor for the A/C blower is the same part number as that for the heater blower so, yes, the 2N5302G is an excellent more robust substitute for the stock one. By the way, tip o' the hat to our own Trevor for doing the research years ago and finding the 2N5302G and posting up his findings.
