Hey guys just wanting to see if anyone has done this, I stumbled on a forum that mentioned doing this and the ease of it being a torx head, I have searched it a bunch of different ways and I can't find the thread I even forgot what forum it was on.
The big question if these are going to fit realoem.com has this listed for an M50: M7X42 and for the N54:M7X39MM. Do those 3mm make it too small?

thanks for any response!
I used M54 studs due to them being shorter... it's helps when you're dealing with non OEM headers w/ tight bends.
I used the n54 ones loved it.
I'll be using a Spa rep Turbo Manifold and the bottom ones are tight so the shortness will actually help woot!
From what I remember reading everyone on the thread liked them because they had the torx head.
I just purchased them from ecs for .99 each
the dealership was asking 5.00 a stud
thaks for the link, just ordered 24 myself.
World record holder for a m52 stock bottom end.
9.41@153 c4 auto 28" et streets, e34 3.64 gearset 900+hp
E36 chassis irs world record holder 8.49@162
Th400, e85, 7685, m50 intake 26.6 lbs of boost
i have experience with using these, another nice feature is that it has a break in the threads so you know where to stop.
For what its worth (and I'm unsure if anyone experienced this), I found them to be snug going in, and the torx head does strip easily to the point where you can suddenly strip the head of the torx and slip and get your hand stabbed/cut by the neighboring stud.
Just ordered some for $0.46 each here's the link in case you haven't pulled the trigger or for others that may be about to:

Funny cause BMW of South Atlanta usually has the most expensive price's
I know its splitting hairs (or counting pennies), but Tischer has them for 37 cents each.

Damn! I bought mine around October of '11 too. They have definitely went up in price.
I paid like ~3x cents from ECS back then. Not .99 cents. Damn!

This is my signature....
Well shxt! They all want $35 - $50 USD to ship 24 studs to Australia....
Boo!
There is a local BMW $tealer, but they charge like wounded bulls! Last time I bothered to get a price from them was years ago when they wanted $126AUD for an E30 top radiator hose! I just can't be f'd wasting time asking them for prices anymore.
The alternative is to buy M7 high tensile bolts and cut the heads off them because no way am I able to find M7 studs here! And even that is expensive at roughly $2AUD per bolt because "M7 is an unusual size".
Australia annoys me greatly sometimes....
I can't work out what the heck has happened with the shipping to Aus lately though. It has got so expensive. $45USD to ship 24 studs??? Really? A guy from E30tech shipped me an entire clutch for $50 from USA. It's like everyone has cottoned on that Aussies like buying stuff from OS - cause everything here is such a rip off - and are making a little extra gravy on shipping.

I bought these a while back and they made things much easier.
The shorter length would matter only with really thick manifold flanges. I have been running them without issue since 2010, but with a Boostlogic that had been resurfaced once. Not sure as to other manifolds. Thick flanges are usually a good thing for a high heat turbo manifold.
I wrote a big reply, but the forum deems I am a newb and therefor not worthy. A big yellow banner informed me "this post needs attention". I stared at it for a while, hoping that would give it the attention it needed, but, alas, it didn't post.
Yes, the local dealer has them, but they charge prices like you wouldn't believe. I'll ring them today and find out how much, and post here just for laughs.
Just reuse the stock studs if getting the newer style is too much trouble or expense. With the double nut method, you can remove the nuts from the old studs. Wire wheel them to clean off any rust, and reuse them. Add washers if you want.
which size e-torx do these require?
Sorry to bump an old thread, i have anS50 and just got the n54 studs, i know the regular studs you just get them to the bottom no torqing needed but since the n54 ones are shorter is it the same process? & should i be using locktite? thank you!!
