USB Serial adapter ADS interface

Hello everyone

I have bought a real ADS cable for my E36

It has a serial port

can I use this USB/Serial adapter to connect it to my laptop or it will not work

by the look of it ... it may work

It says that it's read like a com port

Its written all over this forum that those cables don't work. You need a real COM port with an IRQ, not a virtual USB serial.

Is the Quatech SSP-100 (B&B Electronics) as you can set the IRQ.

HINT: THe IRQ is programmed into the software and CAN NOT be anything but the one it wants.

SSP-100s run in the $100 plus range FYI

instead spend $100 on a older laptop with a real serial port and you will have no doubts, it will also likely be running xp 32bit which has no compatibility issues with any software. I had issues getting certain things to run properly in a windows 7 environment

I bought an older IBM T30 which is my dedicated diagnostic computer. It stays in the garage with all my other tools. Best $100 i have ever spent on a tool.
