    Misc.
E38s 96+ Do not use the same LSD. I cannot use my 98' E38 diff in my former 8 or vice-versa.
Nor do non-M5 E39s...my friend could not use it in his E39 540 sport.

E46 M3s do, but the case/housing is different.

@JK840 - I am about to fit my 97 840ci with the exact same diff (E32 750iL 3.64). Was it as simple as changing tbe rear plate and normally installing it or what work was needed to make fit? Mine is an automatic 5 speed. Was yours?

I'm sure gas mileage has suffered a bit, but RPM range is better for around town driving. Before it felt like 65-70 MPH was where the engine power started to be felt. I couldn't recommend going any higher.

I want a little more umph out of my '97 840CI and I think the best bang for the buck is to upgrade my LSD.
What ratio should I be looking for and where would I find one rather quickly?

    Thanks!

Easiest to find and way cheaper then the e32 lsd is an e46 m3 diff. 3.62 gear ratio and perfect off the line. My car has the s62 in it and i get 23 mpg on the highway, but on the streets maybe maybe 8 lol.

E46 M3 diff does not bolt on.

Don't forget to mention the transmission you're using. I think this is much different with a Manual! I think first gear with the 3:15 is a little too much. It's basically useless.

    Correct.
    I have a manual 840Ci, stock ratio is 3.08.
I bought a 3.15 LSD because it was available and it was limited slip.

    I couldn't feel the ~3% increase.
