    S54 ECU Removal

Anyone have a convenient link (ideally with pictures) for the process of removing the S54 ECU? I know it's relatively simple, but I'm not terribly mechanically inclined and don't want to risk anything . . .

    Thanks in advance.

You don't need pictures, just a Philips screwdriver, and the tools (in the trunk) to disconnect the battery.

ALL of the DME connectors are different, and/or the cable length is such that they cannot be mixed up. On the connectors with a lever, you have to depress a tang to lift the lever.

I DON'T want to know WHY you're removing it...

BMW went to a standardized computer connector system. The MSS52 uses the same connector layout as all MS42 and later computers. Even the transmission computers use the same plug layout. Thus it is easy and there should be plenty of pictures (E46 up) on the web if you need.

That's an S-54 DME (next to the Traffic Pro...) and you can see the five (5) individual plug sockets that the connectors are inserted into__each is different, and the orientation of the plugs can't be confused based on the wiring harness's lengths.

Removing the DME is definitely in the One (1) Wrench category.

Gracias. I knew it was super simple.

It may or may not be getting shipped off for a little massaging . . .
