Finally upgraded to the E39!

Latest updates for my build/restore thread on this car...

Installed the following:

Dinan high flow throttle body
Dinan Stage 3 engine software
Dipstick o-ring
Front bumper license plate delete
Moonroof seal

Stock TB is on the left (was a little dirty inside), Dinan on the right




Dipstick tube was leaking a little bit, putting in a new one was really easy

Front license plate delete looks way better


Moonroof seal had a lot of wind noise, and was an easy install. Just peel the old one off, clean up residue, and stick the new one one. Got rid of all the noise and now the cabin is quiet.

You can see the 10 year old seal was compressed and lost all it's plasticity. New seal on the left, old on the right.




Picking up the Dinan free flow exhaust next week. Debating whether to cut my existing bumper and upgrade to M-Tech later, or just do the M-Tech rear bumper upgrade now.

As a feeler, what do you think it would be worth used? It's in perfect condition.

That way does make more sense since the cost of the bumper upgrade could be offset by the sale of the existing bumper.

Dinan D660-3948 installed on non M-Tech bumper.

I couldn't wait so I just cut a small notch in my bumper. I think it came out pretty good.

Still planning on upgrading to the M-Tech bumper in the future.

Also shoved the exhaust further up and in so it's less prominent.

Thanks. I still have to eventually get a M-Tech bumper to finish it off.

I was reluctant to rip off the OEM badging but I thought it would look pretty cheesy with both badges on either side.

Just squeaked by with 10 points.

"DINAN" on the left looks good.

"DINAN 5" on the left not so much...

I see. You can put the "Dinan" without the "5" and keep the original badge
I would cut more of the bumper and have the exhaust up higher.

I wanted it higher too, but I already have the exhaust shoved as far up the mounting bracket as it will go. I even shoved it rearwards a bit which angled the rubber bracket and got me another 1/4" up. I need the M-Tech bumper badly! It hangs down a bit more than the stock bumper from my measurements and will conceal my exhaust setup a bit better.

Cars coming along nicely! Have you considering painting the chrome on the kidney grills black? I did it and it felt like a massive face lift to me lol.

Thanks! The black grill is on the list. I'll have it done soon. I think it will match the shadowline treatment well.

How does the throttle body feel?

I definitely noticed a significant improvement when I added the throttle body to the CAI, but I also had Dinan load the stage 3 engine software at the same time which may have contributed to some/most of the gains.

There are cheaper alternatives for all the above, but I wasn't price sensitive and wanted to stick with all Dinan stuff.

Same... if I'm going to do performance upgrades then I want to go with Dinan.

Dinan told me that they are planning on discontinuing most of their E39 products soon, so I didn't want to wait. The CAI is already no longer available, but you can still find NOS if you look around. I plan on getting the front and rear strut/shock tower braces & the transmission software and then I think I'll be done with their catalog. I'm not interested in the brakes, suspension, or pedal covers & floormats.

My Dinan exhaust grows about 1/2" longer after it's warm. Kinda weird, never seen that before.
