Well the legal ball is rolling ........ will post updates
Good luck!
So turns out the place in in the process of being shut down by the state!! Multiple licence breaches and alot of unhappy customers who have had there cars held ransom for years!!!
Problem is my cars are part of the problem. Apparently the state manager/liquidating agent is insisting all the cars that aren't abandoned have to pay storage. Seems like they have custody of the shop and are trying to get some $$$ on the back end!
That being the case they won't release my cars until the storage is paid..... suffice to say I am working out something else but picking up the cars before Christmas. Whole place has to be vacated by Dec 31.
Good news is the 740 is looking awesome and the DME issues are sorted. Have finally seen a bill which is legit but unfortunately owing a grand. May try to wiggle out of that with a breach of contract suit..... that'd probably cost a grand though.........
Post pics soon!

Things are pretty good. I have a new job, baby is healthy, I have both Thanksgiving and Christmas off!!
I'm kinda glad the state is involved because EVERYTHING is being gone over with a fine tooth comb. My stuff can't be sold. I just need to get down there to pick it all up.
Thanks!!

Thanks guys. I mean ..... life does go on. I've certainly learned to spend less time on car stuff and my wife and two daughters have benefited.
Have definitely put my car addiction in a safe to manager place now that I was forced into exile for the last 3 years......
Tell ya I am definitely the shoulder to cry on if you have shop or mechanic woes.... it would take quite the story to beat mine.

To think I got in this situation because I wanted to save $800.00!!
I have spent that 5 times over in transportation of the car from Portland Maine via Philadelphia to NC and flights/gas to NC. So so dumb. Never will I ever use an out of town garage again. Anxious to see the final bill. From work that took three years!!!
I must have some recourse?
Glad it's all finally coming to an end! I'll save the congratulations for when you actually have possession, but things appear to be heading in the right direction.
Thanks Haadkoe. I too will only believe it when I'm driving away in the car. Another thing I'm kinda glad about is the salvage title on this car. I have spent many times over what I originally paid and have no chance recovering a reasonable portion. This fact alone provides a decent reason for keeping it from a "forced sale" by my wife.
I won't get ahead of myself though with to many contemplations, just getting it home and in the garage for winter is a reasonable enough goal.

Ready for a shock!!!
So I finally have the invoice for the work on my car. Suffice to say it is more than $3000.00 over the original quote!
This first one includes the "refurbished" m60 engine. We agreed on $800.00. Somehow that ballooned to $1600.00!!!
How do you like the generously donated 20 hours labor to reduce labor cost to only $2700.00!!!! Wow.... what a saving!
In this one there's a charge for an expansion tank I provided... go figure?
And the crunching with my proposed deductions to $1175.43 which includes my $3400.00 contribution.
But waite! There's more! The next page came a day later...today with the other items. Totalling $2144.17!!!!
So the damage.... all told for the engine and transmission labor and all the other stuff..... $7601.83 less my contribution of $3400.11 he is waiting for over $4000.00!!!
You know what. Bugger me if they think after 3 freeking years I am going to pay that!
What about my costs! A wasted one way flight $400.00 .... I couldn't use it because the car wasn't ready.
How about a return trip 9 hours driving either way returned empty handed as the car wasn't ready!!!
I'm so not going to pay that.
What about his multiple contract breaches, not providing me with a quote within ten days of getting the car, no just a bill THREE YEARS AFTER HE STARTED!!!!
Can you feel the tension. I'm so freeking peeved!
I have a plan to offer him $2500.00 and be done, but with a tasty letter from my lawyer citing all the contract breaches. I will promise an f'd up court case that'll cost him dearly if he doesnt take the cash and will end up with him paying me damages for the Shite they've put me through.
Don't mean to whine...... sorry.
So things are moving along. The car does look great and runs like a top. They did do a great job but the "cost" was just too high. Three years!!! Jerks!!!
Will continue to post this craziness. ....

Why not just buy another one and let them keep it?
Ever heard the phrase "throwing good money after bad"?
Go ahead and bite. Plenty for everyone.
Well..... alot of reasons why not. Firstly I'm a sap and emotionally involved with the car.... I know. Not wise. But has alot of cool memories with my daughter cruising. That and the now completely sorted front and rear suspension. Zenith rad, repainted new late model bumpers and side skirts, rebuilt trans and wicked engine..... common this is my dream sled!!!
Knowing my luck if I brought another it'd throw a timing chain.
I'm in too deep to stop the blood letting!!!
Wow... just.... wow.
Good luck with the lawyer, man.

I would let it go - because I can't see anything on the bill that makes me think they got the M60 engine working with the rest of the (OBDII) car - modifying the wiring loom will not do it. We were always suspicious that it wasn't going to work, and them hanging onto the car for so long does nothing to dispel that feeling.
