Hi guys first time post but longtime reader. I recently bought a 2004 BMW e60 545i and absolutely love it. Although recently every time I start up the car the tachometer and speedometer and fuel gauge take about 60secs before they actually engage. Then just like that they are perfect working fine???? I can't find much else anywhere on this so just wondering if its a common thing or just my beast.
I have an 04 and I do not have that issue.
That's concerning no one else has ever delt with this issue
I've seen it before. Replacing the cluster is the only fix

Did you get resolution to your problem? I just got my 2004 530 back on the road after a 1.5yr downtime and I now have this happening as well. Everything else works perfectly but at startup, it takes about 45-60sec for the tax and speedo to respond. Then all is well
Just maybe not necessarily a new cluster is the fix, I had similar cluster issues after buying my 545 yrs ago and dealer wanted to replace cluster also, so I said no and got a cluster off eBay and hooked it up and same problem exactly and after that insisted that dealer do a reload of software on my car (cost of 250$), after an hour or so tech came to talk to me and said he needed to replace cluster , I told him no try software again and it fixed my cluster all working good since.
Working with computers and avionics most of my career helpwed me make this determination......
problem seems to be that cars for sale lots of time sit around and drain battery and software gets funky after that and just adding power doesn’t always get things back to normal.

That is also what BMW would recommend us techs to do first... update software.
if it failed on the KOMBI (cluster) we would do a special measure to that component (basicly update software by itself)
