    @blake261 E36 drift build '95/obd1 s52/flares/other somewhat cool stuff...

As some of you may remember, I had another half assed build thread for my 96 E36 M3, I plan on full assing this one, so follow along my progress!

    THE STORY:

I had a Black e36 m3 that i bought for $1750, after replacing the cracked head and all the bushings with solid aluminum, I built it up for drifting and general enthusiastic driving, 3 Days before its first real test at Deal's Gap in NC, I let my friend drive it, and he totalled it, with me in the car. A cracked rib, broken foot and bruised lung later, I was on the search for a new shell to build up.

Im at the tail end of the frame swap now, but as we all know, these things are never truly "done".....

    OLD CAR:
    black e36 moms driveway .jpg
    E46 arms
    every mount, AKG aluminum
    every reinforcement, AKG
    Adj rear control arms
    momo steering wheel/NRG HUB
Corbeau Drivers seat with Scroth quick fit harness
    DEPO headlights and HIDS
    Bilstein PSS's
    UUC strut bar
    EBAY front sway
    Borbet type e's ET15 17x8/Miglia mmII's ET13 17x9
    HARD motorsport flares
    Ebay headers
Custom aluminum door panels, trunk separator panel

    NEW CAR:

In some of these pics, you can see how badly the black car was...

Found a clean, 95 M3 frame, and even though it was silver, I bought it anyway. Had the frame for about a month before I started the swap, I had a deadline to make for my beautiful girlfriend's car show in NY, it took 26 days, from start to "finish". Would've taken less, but Im an EE major at UML, and I work about 30 hrs a week....

    Started with the rear end:

    Then the front end:

Front subframe off the black car was tweaked about 1/8th in, so I had to reinforce the spare...did it on top this time, because even though it raises the motor about 1/8th in, it took me hours to get the AKG pieces to fit inside the subframe last time.

    done and done

    started the obd1 swap:

    finished the obd1 swap:

    started the interior:

realized I had to swap the sexy digital climate control into the 95 chassis, even though it came with the knobs and the vacuum heater core:

    swapped my seat in:

put the now OBD1 motor in:

    then the front body pieces:

    the chip to start it!!!:

after finding out there wasn't a fuel pump in the car by diagnosing why it would start, I swapped the other one in, BAM! she started

2 days later i drove it 4 hours away to NY:

    And up bear mtn:

Got back and started fitting the flares:

then off to my first drift day!!! it was at NHMS and I had a blasty blast!

I was doing ok by the end of the day, next one is in a couple weeks at Lime Rock Park..

    NEW CAR MOD LIST:

    all AKG aluminum mounts
    every reinforcement done
    E46 arms
    rack spacers
    adj rear control arms
    ebay front sway bar
    DEPO headlights with HID's
    hard motorsport flares
    miglia MM-II's 17x9 ET13 w/ nitto NT-05's
    ss brake lines
    OBD 1 S52/ M50 manifold/ red label ECU/ Turner Chip
    momo steering wheel, NRG hub
    Corbeau seat/ scrothe harness
    AC Schnitzer rear wing
    Bilstein PSS coilovers
    UUC front strut bar
    Corbonio VW VR6 intake
gutted, no radio, no interior, just the dash and heater core left.

    Future plans:

Next week: 3.5 inch exhaust with tunnel, exiting thru rear quarter panel.

Next month: tube rear end, with a trailer hitch to tow my Triumph Daytona 675

    Next year: full cage

When I win the Lotto: GTX35/ARD manifold, etc.....

Awesome man! Exhaust out the rear qt!? That's rad. As an FYI besides the July 13th Lime Rock event the rest of their dates this year are a muffled 86dB limit so if you plan on any other events there you may want to put a muffler, or make it easy to install/remove a muffler for events.

what else could I do besides a solid guibo? I have rack spacers, but other than modding the knuckles, idk what else I could do for more angle...I eventually want to get the SLR kit, but well see

I know, 98.9dB at NHMS and got in trouble there for hitting 99 with my set up now...

I will be making a tunnel underneath the passenger seat to house a round muffler, and if its still too loud, I will run one inside the car between the bend over the rear seat spot, and the edge of the body too.

You're going to route exhaust inside the car? Idk if that's a good idea but also I don't know if it'll pass tech...

it'll have a separate tunnel underneath the seat, but there will be an exposed section behind the seats, jet hot coated and heat wrapped and not in a place you would ever be. Lots of time attack cars and off road jeeps and such do this, and I havent seen anything in any of the rule books for drifting sanctions ive seen....if im mistaken, plz lmk! i would hate to build it up and find out i cant use it. although I suppose I could always extend the tunnel to cover it...

Cool build, what brackets are you using with that FX1 pro? The corbeau bottom mounts?

I know that about the guibo, its just a sterring mod i could think of lol. Im weary of modding the knuckles, I would much rather buy that bracket that moves the tie rod in, then weld to the cast metal the knuckle is...

aaannnnnnddd im not gonna make lime rock, same day as a close friends wedding. Ill just have to wait for the Drift Spot one at the end of July at NHMS. at least I can spend the saved money on my exhaust tubing! lol

Swapping a 3.38 LSD diff I into my car today, well see how I like it. Swapped the covers because I had solid bushings in the 3.15, and put new fluid in the 3.38.

So where did you bury your friend?

Also we have a $525 setup for E46 arms that you can upgrade later into a full kit just by adding the arms. It's not on the website yet, but just email me if you're interested.

I would love to buy that kit, gotta wait until funds allow.

Got some work done on the exhaust setup, made the tunnel, haven't cut the floor yet though, mocked up some tube to see how this'll actually work lol I'm planning on using at least one vibrant ultra-q 3" inlet/outlet muffler, gotta keep the noise down for lime rock

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile, I got an internship and haven't had alot of time, so I'm not moving as fast on my build as I'd like. Finally cut the hole in the floor and tacked the tunnel in, welding the cover on today.

Whose going to lime rock!? If I can get this quiet enough I will be!

I finished the exhaust and headed out to lock city drift's "beat the heat" event at Lime Rock Park last week/weekend. Came out nice, I'll let the pics do the talking. I had a complete blast. People were cool, lots of skill, track was awesome.

section 5.5, page 16, 2013 FD rule book.

"Exhaust system modifications are free, but must exit after the rear axle or in the original location. Mufflers are not required."
