Classic circuit. As they say, "anything can happen" and we're only eight races (counting Silverstone) into the 19-race 2013 season, but Vettel's rivals are going to have to figure something out if they want to stand any chance of blunting his momentum. Ferrari still hasn't cracked qualifying, and Lotus looks to have been thoroughly leapfrogged by Merc at this point in the season... Here's where we stand:
Drivers' Championship:
1. Vettel - 132
2. Alonso - 96
3. Kimi - 88
4. Hamilton - 77
5. Webber - 69
Constructors' Championship:
1. RBR - 201
2. Ferrari - 145
3. Mercedes - 134
4. Lotus - 114
5. Force India - 51

Amazing lap by Hamilton and impressive result by Ricciardo. Di Resta was great again but his car was underweight so he gets excluded, I don't see him staying with FI next year.
Watching on CNBC... What a disaster for Pirelli.

Lets strap those Pirelli engineers with some exploding tires on their street car.... This is ridiculous and unsafe. Worse than the Michelin issue at Indy
It's worse because it affects everyone, and because Pirelli's been twisting in the wind of team/FIA pressure all season... Nightmare.
What a freakshow of a race...at Silverstone no less.
Meanwhile Vettel makes it look effortless up in 1st...

Rosberg takes it. Well done.
Kinda wish we had 3 weeks to discuss this one...instead of the 1 week to the German GP.

Blistering Barnacles, what a race at the end!!! So much entertaining.
Great drive from Hamilton to climb up back in the top five places. Not a great race for Kimi and sure enough Lotus should have brought him in for a fresh boot but they were just not decisive enough. They couldn't make a call when I think they should have taken that golden opportunity. Too bad for Vettel as he really had it in his pocket but transmission issue got him in the last ten laps. Atleast, the points have got reduced for now.
Looks like Pirelli are now in trouble, deep trouble!

sounds like a good race! ill be waiting for the download any minute now!
Weren't they supposedly using a new bonding method to prevent delaminations? Gonna be a PR nightmare for them on this. Glad no one got hurt. Massa could have had a bad wreck if the wall was closer and Alonso got lucky going around Perez on the right and not the left. Great race especially seeing Weber on the podium.

Apparently, it seems that there have been a few teams that were against running/changing/using the new rubber compounds that Pirelli had introduced and were willing to be used by the teams here at Silverstone. Martin Brundle was saying during the commentary that Pirelli were trying to go back to the Kevlar belts/compound but some teams were against due to the reason they think this will affect their performance so far and it will be a disadvantage for them.

Taken from f1technical.net:Todt calls emergency meeting
June 30, 2013 by Joe Saward
Jean Todt has told Pirelli to be in Paris on Wednesday this week for a meeting of the Sporting Working Group, in order to take measures to avoid a repeat of the tyre problems that were seen at Silverstone. Pirelli has been asked to propose a solution. The FIA’s priority is, obviously, driver safety, and a suitable solution is deemed to be needed as soon as possible.
Although Pirelli is taking the brunt of criticism after the British GP, it must be said that the reason that changes were not made to the tyres used at Silverstone was because the teams were unable to agree with one another. Obviously the tyre failures in Silverstone have added fuel to the fire so that there will be more pressure on those who have argued against the change. Thus it is no surprise to hear that Red Bull Racing has been talking up the problem.
Not seen these failures before - Hembery
F1 Grand Prix, GP Great-Britain, Silverstone Circuit
Nico Rosberg won the British Grand Prix that was dominated by a number of rear-left tyre failures during the race, which affected Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso) and Sergio Perez (McLaren). Pirelli engineers will investigate closely the cause of the failures ahead of next week’s German Grand Prix.
Pirelli’s motorsport director Paul Hembery said: “There have obviously been some issues with rear-left tyre failures which we have not seen before. We are taking the situation very seriously and we are currently investigating all tyres to determine the cause as soon as possible, ahead of the next Grand Prix in Germany. At the moment, we can’t really say much more until we have fully investigated and analysed all of these incidents, which is our top priority.
"However, we can exclude that the new bonding process, which we introduced at this race, is at cause for the tyre failures we have seen today. There might be some aspect to this circuit that impacts specifically on the latest version of our 2013 specification tyres but at this point we do not want to speculate but will now put together all the evidence to find out what happened and then take appropriate next steps should these be required.”
