Alternator repair diy bmw 645ci e64

Guys I was having fault codes popping up, dynamic drive malfunction, active steering, malfunction, radio, ac ,and nav screen going on and off. After reading a portable voltmeter in my car I realized it was spiking at 17 plus volts. So rather than pay $1,500 to the Dealership for a replacement alternator, $600 to an indy or $250 to Autozone for a replacement one, I bought a $50 voltage regulator, and it works great now. I have done a write -up with pictures ,but the website says the file is too big. This is the first DIY that I have done for the site..... any suggestions ?

Ive just had exactly the same experience... My local independent has identified an alternator that's all over the place for the cause of just about every thing to fail... Fortunately/Unfortunately, its insured , but that means i need to drag it to the local dealer to get it done under the warrrenty..

If that fails, then I would be very keen to see this..

has anyone been able to post this write-up? I can't find it and now I'm one of the regulator victims who desperately needs it. Can someone email it to me at least?

I need it! I have the part I plan on doing it tomorrow... Will I need to remove the whole alternator or can I just take the cover off and the regulator with the alternator still in tact?

I'm in the Tampa area so if you could help I'll pay!!
