When ever I turn on my air conditioning fan on 1,2,3 it will not turn on but when I put it on 4 it will work. Any body know why it would do that??
I have never worked on an E30 so I can't be sure but that's almost always a bad resistor in the unit that controls the blower. It might be behind the control panel or it might be on the blower mower itself.
That is probably a problem with the fan speed resistor. It and the blower are under the oblong cover in the center of the firewall in the engine bay.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Definitely the resister pack. The resistor pack is located on the blower body. Access is via the firewall on the engine side. There is an access panel there.
