I think there you could expand the third meaning. The first thing I noticed was the red "5" tag in the corner, so without the 540 plaque, I knew it was a Five series, and the I saw the "IT" and knew it was an "injected touring".............

Wrong car? I debadged mine and there is no red anything back there except tail lights. It's not injected with anything either, but maybe it should be!

Oooohh, I'm slow I guess (me, not the car). So that's because it was registered in May and renewal is due in May of each year. 5 = May.

You might be right about the meaning of i = injected but my three meanings didn't relate to that.

I'm gonna try to get some pictures of the badges on one of our local SF Bay Area 540iT owners... I like it than anything I've seen so far. He fabricated a 540iT badge. Looks like it came from factory that way.

My wife and I have #76, a 2003 540it M-sport with 45,000 miles. We bought it a couple years ago - with 41,000 miles and in mint condition - after a very long search for a good touring, and we love it! Attaching a couple pictures.

In the process of getting ahead the maintenance. Car is stock and eventually will be back to newish again. Just replaced the bags and will be hunting down shocks next and the power steering lines next.

I just bought # 92668 which apparently is 1 of 10..Mine has the navigation system, which although archaic, makes it a little more of a rare bird..Im still not certain if I am going to keep it though..

it's jet black/black 2 (color code 668) on grey
so i guess that makes me one of only 4 cars, which is interesting.

I was a day away from buying a 2003 540iT M sport topaz blue on gray, now I know it was 1 of 1... Wow, cool stuff.
That was back last fall. It would have been a decent car with a fun color and already having the M sport bumpers and style 66 wheels.
