Hi,
Being the new owner of a 2000 M Roadster (92500 km, Canadian model), I had the idear to post the log of all work that were done on the car. This to give reference to future new owner like me (I m also a Noob in the Bimmer world) as to what to do and how much it should cost (estimation).
Also, if you noticed that I paid too much for some item, please share your comment (so that Noob like me will know what to expect price range wise) All price are in CAD.
I live near Montreal, Qc and go to a garage named JJ Heroux in Chambly, they guy run his garage since 1976 and only deal with BMW. He is a passionate as far as I can tell!
So log entry 1:
This week, after inspection of the car before purchase, I had the following done:
Price include labor and part (I ll got the breakdown but was around 900$ for part, rest in labor, car was in for 3 days)
Flex disk was crack and was replaced 300$
One of the welding holding the exhaust was broken, re welded for 50$
The passenger seat belt bucket was replaced (the airbag light was on, now it off) 300$
Changed the water pup 300$ (preventive mesure)
Changed one tie rod bushing 180$ General tuning, all liquid and filter were check, prestone was changed, 10W60 oil change (15$ per liter), I had my own air and oil filter with me (bought from Bavarian) 208$
Total came to 1338$ tax in (we paid 15% tax in Qc…)
Tomorrow, going in for sub frame welding (crack started to appear under the car…). 600$ tax in. They will remove the differential to go in, they done it on multiple BMW, never had a customer coming back. Carroserie Demers in St-Jean
Log entry 2
Had the oem spoiler removed, the hole in the trunk filled and the trunk repainted
500$
The sub frame was reinforced by welding, the removed the differential to do the job 600$
Log 3
Had "alignement" done and tire got azote. 87$
Got a professional appraisal of the car for insurance purpose 160$
I'm surprise to hear your flex disc needed replacing to soon. I've replaced the on a number of different m roadsters at around 75-100k miles as preventative maintenance and observed little to no cracks. Do you think it has something to do with the weather the car is driven in or the driving style?
Also, although your in Canada, does the 2000 model not have the 3.2 ltr S52 engine? If you're using 10w60, it infers you have the S54 engine released in the 2001-2 models.
Congrats on the car and thanks for sharing your progress.

I have the S52, mechanic recommended 10/60 oil
Flex disk had crack
Car was never driven in winter condition
That is not BMW NA recommendation - http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ngineOils.aspx
S52 they recommend 10W60 (preffered) or 10W40

Interesting. Unless my memory is failing me, this section is new
Plus my preferred oil, Mobil 1 0-40, no longer seems to be a S52 recommended oil.If Castrol High Performance Synthetic Oil is not available and you need to add oil between oil changes, only use synthetic oils with the following specifications for M vehicles:
Viscosity - preferred SAE 10W-60
Alternative - SAE 10W-40, SAE 5W-50 or SAE 10W-50
Did the glove box fix, cost 30$, took 2 hours, well worth it!!!
The machine last week end

Changed the antenna for a stubby look:
8$ on ebay
Oil change at 99k km. 143$
Will need to change front disk and pad (vibration when braking at high speed).
Hit 100k km
I like your idea of keeping a maintenance log. I do the same, but add more detail, particularly the manufacturer and part number for most parts that I replace. If a part works well, I'll know what to order next time. If it doesn't. I'll know to look for other recommendations. Specifically for something like the flex disk there are many choices such as different materials and manufactures. The same goes for brakes, belts, hoses, tires, filters, fluids, etc. Even for BMW parts, I sometimes use non-model-stock parts. It's also possible that later-on, I can assure a potential buyer that I used quality parts for the repairs I made.
I used to keep a log book on each vehicle, much like an aircraft maintenance log, but now I use a computerized document (MS Word) and I sometimes add pictures and scanned documents.
Indeed!
I have a big binder at home with all documents related to the car
Did a small cosmectic mod, adding a M logo up front

I agree that the logo is quite big, wonder how big are the oem one? One standard size?
If you haven't you may want to consider removing the clutch/mechanical fan before it explodes/flies apart.

Apparently you live in a cool climate so the stock thermostat (198F) and aux fan dual contact temperature switch should do fine (The stock temperature switch is 91c/99c or 196F/210F).
there is an engine over-temperature light that comes on at 125c (257F) as measured by the block coolanttemperature sensor monitored by the DME..
Store for the winter. 335$ until may. Battery on battery tender.
