E31 Headlight insert replacement?????

Guys, I know there is probably something somwhere on this but I am not that good at searching through the E31 forums. What I need is some sort of instructions pictures are something to replace the headlight insert. I have purchased the insert and the covering but I don't want to break anything because the headlight does not just sit in the housing. so does anyone have instructions are pictures for doing this?
