    Thanks.

That is the ‘cubby’ tray specific to SMG cars. Here’s a BMW brochure pic:

And a pic of my own

I see an update is due.

Not much done, as there is no much left to do.

The Bosch 'hidden' windshield antenna has been replace by a BMW Diverstity Antenna setup, which is totally hidden.

And a year ago I stumbled upon an E36 sales ad that pictured the original CD Box holder in the glovebox. I contacted the dealer and to make a long story short, he sold me the CD box for good price. Not the ridiculous prices you see being asked for it. This was originally a €10,- piece.

There are now 3d printed copies for sale (for silly money as well), but it had to be an original one. It wasn't on my wanted list, but still a nice-to-have piece.

The parts are made my well-known German manufacturer Fischer, which has made a Tape/CD holder for about every single 80's/90's car. The CD/Tape trays can be found all over Ebay, it's the E36 glovebox specific frame that has become unobtanium.

    Frame and CD tray.

    Testfit in the 328i

Now since my fitted headunit (BMW Professional RDS) is tapedeck based and the CD Changer has been long gone, having a CD box fitted make no sense. The devil is in the details.

So I picked up some Fischer cassette tape trays and swapped these in.

It leaves exactly enough space for the original owner's manual/service book/radio manual/what not case. Yes, the E36, even M3's got a nice transparent piece of plastic folder case.

I don't ever play tapes really, but at least everything matches.

So what's up next. No idea right now. My calipers do need a repaint.

Very cool M3. I just purchased an Alpine White US spec M3 myself. The SMG is a cool and rare option for sure.
I'd totally use that cassette holder as my cassettes and CD cases are just sliding around in the door pockets.

Actually SMG1 is not at all a rare option. I don’t have the exact numbers, but at least half the 3.2’s are SMG.

I guess the SMG only seems rare as it appears to not have been an option in the US.

It was indeed not an option in the US and only an option on the M3 3.2 models from somewhere 1996.

Could be the case that not a single SMG1 car drives around in the US.

You've done good work. However those wheels are the ugliest things I've ever seen, sorry. The car looks beyond awful.

If we all liked the same...

BBS RS’s are my all time favorite wheels and I myself dislike any of the OEM E36 wheels.

BMW did fit the RS’s to the E24 (for a short time).

The wheels are fine and complement the car well.

On this board it seems there only two valid wheel choices on a BMW:

    1) M Parallel in E39 bore size
    2) M Parallel in E38 bore size

Why would you be offended? Because of someone else’s wheel choice?

Everyone is free to comment on my car, both positive and negative.

Yes, it is that bad. Morally I am offended by the wheels. I say that half jokingly.

    yay
Damn, that Fischer Cassette holder is sweet. I actually listen to tapes still. It's always 1992 in my ride.

Did you have to drill holes to install?

    No, plug and pluy.

If you open your glovebox you will see a small slit at the top of the back and two parallel slits in the ‘ceiling’ of the glovebox.

That’s were the two hooks on top of the frame slide into. So you push the frame against the ceiling, that push it so the rear tab slides into.

On the left side there are same type of slits/holes for the glovebox cupholders.

That's like saying Britney Spears was the ugliest girl in the world in 1999 or Forest Gump is the worst movie ever made. Out of curiosity, what wheels do you have on your 328is?

The styling 42 (BBS) y-spoke wheels that (unfortunately) came with the M3.

Been a while. In the mean time all forum softwares seem to no longer show non-https links. So that needs attention.

Not must done, mainly because there is not much left to do. What I did finally finish this year, was to take out the old "comfort blinker" module out of the 328i and make it a true Plug 'n Play solution. Since I figured out all necessary wires, including +12v and ground are all part of the indicatror stalk harnass, this would be simple to do. So a spare stalk for the connector and all correct color-coded wiring and an extra contra-connector was all that was needed.

Just inplug the stalk connector under the dash, and connect it to one side of this contraption, and insert the other side into the car's harnass. Job done. It's programmable for 1-12 blinks, but the 'normal' 3 blinks will do.

Car itself hasn't changed from the outside since I imported it in 2013, fitted the BBS RS wheels and the amber indies. That was the look I wanted and still holds today.

Disregard that, it's just the embedded images that aren't https and external hyperlinks.

Love the white. Just saw this thread now, always wanted a white E36 but c'est la vie. Very envious of it's condition.

Unfortunately I can't edit the topic title, but since this is my main 'journal' this has to do.

Trend, fad, Instagram hipster hype? I've always like the logo and now that it's an OEM offering, why not. Can always swap back.
