i had the same thing happen with my e46 arms - the arms got gouged up pretty good as well, but the wheels didn't really get damaged. i'm guessing it's because forged aluminum > cast aluminum any day of the week
also, rad paint! looks really good in a 10 foot picture anyway. what brand/color did you use?

lolol, dat disney paint. can't find anything online for that color, all the disney stuff on gliddens' website says it's meant for interior use. but the first result on google mentioned that glidden is owned by PPG, which might explain why i like the color so much - it's very similar to a PPG urethane paint i've been eyeballing for years now

Yeah I assume that they only expect people to use the Disney colors on the interior. You should have seen the guy at Home Depots face when I said I wanted it in exterior. lol. But really there is no reason that you can't get them in exterior since the paint is in the base and they just add the pigment to it at the counter.
hrm, good to know. how much did you use for the whole car? 1 gallon? did you thin it at all? or did you roll it on uncut

last time i remember people roll painting a car, it was diluted with mineral spirits. it also required the same prep as a normal paint job or would orange peel like crazy.
edit: wow this was really 10 years ago? holy crap.

I did one of those years back with rustoleum in a can. The high density foam rollers weren't cheap and the prep/care it took was actually more than when I finally learned to shoot from a gun.
Costs less, more effort.

it is more effort, but i think its more of a solution for DIY guys at home who can't set up a "paint booth" with proper ventilation and wet floor and such.

I did 2 full coats uncut. This stuff actually covers really well because its the paint and primer in one. I think that I only went through like 2/3s of a gallon.
I have seen the rustoleum with the wetsanding and such. I think is a good solution for me since I wasn't looking for gloss anyway. As far as having a texture, it has a very fine one so yeah it wouldn't really work well for a glossy job without some sanding. All I did for prep was scuff the existing paint and masked off the stuff I didn't want painted. I did find one flaw that I am going to have to address in a few areas. This stuff doesn't like bare metal or surface rust. So there are a couple places that I am going to sand down and prime and repaint. At the end of the day it is about a 5 foot paint job that only cost me like $40, on a car that could possibly bounce off of something. I am not going to be one of those people to spend stupid amounts of money on paint for a drift car.
did you thin it at all?

I think he didn't thin at all. Which is odd. I thinned mine like a mofo and did 7 coats. Even then, if I had wet sanded properly, it would have come out suuuper shiny and nice. But when you really shoot a car, you shouldn't have to wet sand as much.

ah i didn't recognize the term "uncut" in this context lol. maybe the paint being the type with primer built in changes the need to thin it? when i did a roll on Rustoleum paint job on a hood i had to thin it about 50/50 with mineral spirits to keep it from going on too thick and getting bubbles.

Looks great! I'm hoping to see you out there on Sunday assuming I can get my damn driveshaft to be happy by then. I made it out there for the last TnT of the year, and drifting those banks was a RIOT! Until one of my coils went bad at least haha... I'm hoping on Sunday I can learn something about transitions and where to go on that track besides just ripping around the banking in both directions.
