The only difference I notice is they don't chirp around corners like the radials did with no rear diff, and if the car gets loose up top the whole car will shift right or left but the rear end doesn't come out. With the radials if you got loose at speed the rear end would come out but you would still drive straight. Its kind of like the rear tires are steering the car. Its quite manageable if you just get out of it. I went to import race yesterday that they do up here called the MAP proving grounds. I never went before because I didn't know they had a test and tune, and I usually don't care for the import scene much. It was actually a fun event and there were very few people actually drag racing. First thing I did was finally get my NHRA licence so they will stop kicking me off the track. That was pretty straight forward, just had to do a cockpit orientation with the nhra guy and then do 6 solo license passes. You have to do one half pass, 3 moderate passes, and 2 full passes. I can hot lap my car so i did all 6 in 45 minutes. Then you have to have two other licensed drivers to sign off on your application. I didn't know anybody there so I just started asking people and the first two people I found were very willing to help. So that will be in the mail on monday to get my card. After that they said you can go ahead and run as if you had a license so I made a few more passes. For the last few passes I turned up the boost to 28 psi but was having a really hard time with traction. The car was also all over the place on the big end of the track and I had to keep getting out of it. I raised the tire pressure from 12 to 15 and that calmed the car down on the top of the track but then the 60 foot went away. The car is a big crowd favorite and I get thumb ups and people yelling cool car at me wherever I go which is fun. Lots of people coming to see what motor is in it. I drove it to and from the track and cruised around the pits all day and never had to touched anything on the car. I still havn't tuned it any more than the 15 minutes after I switched injectors on the way to the track last time. These were the 7 passes I made after the license passes. 9.753 @ 144.61 9.791 @ 145.41 9.842 @ 140.55 (had to get out of it) 9.804 @ 139.85 (had to get out of it) 9.857 @ 148.74 9.818 @ 148.43 9.800 @ 148.23 New best 60 foot time of 1.31
This is awesome! 140+ is no joke! Can't imagine a 1.31 60ft. Great job!

Perry, I love the launch. The 60 ft is awesome. Wheelies, awesome. The rear end set up works so well. They should make some spec e30 drag classes. E30 outlaw class would be awesome, bmw powered and then anything goes.

Now that I could get into. I was thinking about racing at the import race that is going on this weekend but every class they have says "oem frame only". Even there "outlaw" class says no bigger than a 26" slick. We wouldn't want fast cars to show up for our race now would we? That's fine, you can let the DSM's and GTR's running 170 mph with a 2 second 60 foot duke it out, I'll be at home.

Better try dem bias ply up front. You should be able to break into the 8's on a stock bottom end...the 9.75 pass @144 mph is a 9.45 with a th400 and solid rear. Bench racing is soooo easy

Mixing bias ply slicks and radial "front runners" is not going to end well! Get smart ...

I have them in the garage already, just need to figure out a set of rims. I talked to Mickey Thompson and they said there shouldn't really be an issue with stiff sidewall slicks which is what I have and a good handling car. It drives fine even when it gets loose.

It will be faster than that. 144 is on gate pressure.

My last pass it did a giant wheel stand and I got out of it and came down and smashed the oil pan. Time for AAA lol. Totally worth it! They told me the front tires were 3 feet in the air and sparks flew everywhere when it came down. I couldn't even see the top of the trees.
