it all depends where u go, what colour your car is now, if you want same colour they wont have to paint the engine bay and inside of door and under trunk, if you want to change colour then thats gonna be much more costly,
it all depends on where you go to, you want quality u pay more sorta thing, i can get my car re-painted same colour for 2200 CAN but i would rather pay 3500 because another body shop does way better work, see what im saying?

also quotes are free, pull up to a few shops and ask for a paint quote they will tell you right there

    Very True.

    good points,

yea i wasnt sure if the sapphire black required extra work, or if the paint was exspensive like chromalusion.

My car is black thankfully so they wont need to do jams etc. plus most of the panels are going to be new.

where im headed except in that SEXY BMW Black Sapphire. DROOL

You have to be confident and you have to know what you are getting done, dont just go to any average joe shop and expect them to do a good job. Always look at their previous work and try to build an affiliation with the owner of the shop before taking your car there.

I could have spent anywhere from $1000 to well over $8000, when you resprayed my car but in the end I only paid $2500 (doesn't include the bay)... I made sure the guy was using all the right materials and that he wasn't cutting corners, i also randomly showed up a few times make sure he was on task...

    nice...
it should cost around 1000 dollars at a cheap place and around 2500 at a good place.
macco isnt half bad if you do the labor.. i mean take the whole car apart and have them only prep and spray the car.

No offense Playboy but MAACO sucks! I sell automotive paint and I wouldn't let thim paint my bicycle. They use the cheapest paint on the market. They use the cheapest labor in the market. That's how they can paint your car so cheaply! Please anyone reading this never subject your BMW to this kind of work. If you want to use a quality shop ask what kind of paint they are using. A high quality shop should be using a european brand like Sikkens, Glasurit or even Spies Hecker. They are all very good products with good color match. Hey, I didn't even tell you which one of these I sell so this is an unbiased opinion.

honestly dude... polyurethane paint is what matters... its not the maker its the type of paint you use...
and honestly polyurethane is one hell of a good paint.
it wont fade and its almost like plastic when dry... it doesnt even chip easily...
and i say this from experience...
i had a few mirrors painted with DUPONT paint and after a few months the mirrors have some chips on it...
the FIBERGLASS lip spoiler was painted with polyurethane paint and it has half of the chips that are on the mirrors and its larger than the mirrors also its fiberglass which we all know has a tendency to chip paint...
so take it as you will... macco uses polyurethane paint i believe.

Playboy I'm not trying to start a war. Just to give you a little background on my experience (not having something painted by someone else). I am a technical consultant for a major paint company. I have been in this business for 18 yrs. So please don't try to tell me about different types of paint. The type means alot less than who made it as in what quality. To give you an example MAACO can paint a car for less than you can buy a quality paint. You get what you pay for.

im not trying to start a flame war either im just telling you my experience with maaco's paint that you said is low end..
i painted parts with the best(dupont) and with what you say is the worst type of paint(plyurethane-maaco) and i just told you what happened to both parts of the car.. let me refresh your memory.. the part painted with dupont paint has more chips than the one painted with polyurethane paint.

Do not even think about going to Maaco or One day or any of those econo paint shop. They are absolutely horrible; just head over and look at their finished cars before making any decisions. My friend had his car painted there and now his car looks like a cheap salvaged wreck.

If cost is an issue, some independent shops do single stage paint for less than 800 and it looks pretty good. I had one of those before, and there was no complains. I ultimately ended up getting a 2 stage (base/clear) paint job for 1,600 and it couldn't look any better. I wouldn't pay more than 4,000 for ANY paint job, period. It may take awhile to find a good shop, but the risks are simply too high. If a dirty car makes a car looks shitty, imagine what a bad paint job would do.

I just repainted my car. I had Cosmos Black and went to a Deep Black. The pain job price is listed in my sig. That included the dent wizard to come out and repair panels with any imperfections, then sand the entire car, removing all the glass, handles, key holes, lights, mirrors, sunroof gasketm etc... Take everything off the car, and primer the car. Then paint it using the black that I chose (It wasn't tripple black like everyone thinks, but it was close to it in the end result) and had them do 2 layers of Clear...Don't know if that helped, but figured it couldn't hurt.

Thats the reflection of the car. Its a pic of my neighbor's house. For someone who really knows pain jobs, you can see the car needs to be detailed and wet sanded still.

That said, I'm happy and the price quoted also included installing and painting the Dresmann kit I had installed.

Thats about right if your not doing any of the labor. Good paint, good shop, great results. You really do save a lot if you prep the car yourself. What did dent wizard cahrge you to remove the dings?

Not sure why they put your car in primer, was the original paint going bad? usually you can just base coat over the original paint.

i just got quoted 2000 for a paint job. the body shop uses sikkens, and he said that there is about 300 dollars worth of body work needed. i also got him to drop his price (originally at 3200 down to 2000) due to slow work.

It would probably depend on the # of coats they put on. If you put on one coat of each, chances are, not only will the Maaco chip, but it'll most likely feel like crap.

Like you've heard before, you get what you pay for. If it were a matter of a few hundred, it's not that bad. But you're talking about $2-3k vs. $300. Uh, yeah, Maaco sucks ass! I've seen their work and the paint feels like someone did it themselves with spray paint. Cheap!

As for Black Sapphire, it's not a special color (like pearl or chromallusion). If you just want exterior (including door jams, partial engine bay, trunk) it'll cost about $2500 or so (I paid $2200 for my Audi). If you want a FULL paint job, you'd have to remove the interior and engine and it'll cost around $4-6k.

Chromallusion paint will cost you around $6k for exterior only and it takes 6 stages (vs. 2 stages for typical/metallic paint). Also, if you get a scratch or a dent you want to fix, you're going to have to paint the entire car again.

Pearl is three stages by the way: Color, pearl, then clear.
Regular and metallic paint is two stage: color and clear.

Thanks, i really appreciate it, more knowledge i could use

Z3, not sure, cause they were purty, not stock, and not stupid looking compared to others, i didnt want stock because aftermarket is lighter, and cheaper.
