1990 BMW 750iL - 163k miles. SRS light flashing, limp mode, radio malfunction, check engine light comes on when idling and turns off after revving to high rpm.
After i turn my car off having it started for any period of time, The screen on my instrument cluster displays "Check Control + owners manual"
My stock radio has not been working and having illumination problems for a while. And every time i replace the 10 amp fuse on the stock amplifier it burns out as soon as i plug the battery back or turn the key.
By check control does the car mean this or that:

Im not having ECU problems, so it has to be the cd changer and stereo control (stock amplifier)
Maybe im using too weak of a fuse, what is the amps needed if not 10? (15 amps burned out too)
NOTE:
Previous owner had aftermarket stereo installed by geek squad, they bypassed factory amp, spliced wires. Owner stated that's when SRS light started flashing and car went to 'Limp Mode'. I reconnected all wires back to the factory amp (messy work) and factory stereo. Car seems to run better but still limping.

the pictures shown is the check control module = CCM.
Is that check control only on when you switch off the car? Or also when you start the car?
In case of my Japan spec. 1989 750iL it is normal, that when I switch ignition ON to the acc position, the check control, owners manual and catalysator sign comes up in the check control at the bottom of the cluster. That is normal on Japan spec cars, it is just a check function that these warnings can work every time the car is started.
What is mentioned in the check control line on the cluster? Just check control + owners manual? Or more?
Check control
the following system faults are displayed in the forum of inscriptions and a gong warning is sounded. A distinction is made between 3 levels of priority.
Priority level 1 and 2 http://750il.bmw7.hu/owners_manual/framed.html
Priority level 3 http://750il.bmw7.hu/owners_manual/framed.html
if there is a + sign, there are more warnings. Call up the CC button to get further displays.
The CC button is shown here as number 2 http://750il.bmw7.hu/owners_manual/framed.html
As for the burning fuse with the amp I have no answer, someone with US spec. amps has to comment on this.
Is there any fault in the system whith the stomp test?

Stomp test has no faults. "Check Control + owners manual" indicator comes on only after I turn the car off and take the key out.
I believe the amp fuse keeps burning out because the radio itself is malfunctioning big time. will have to repair it.
I checked the CCM taking it apart and did not see anything burnt out or broken :/

Scratch all of that, I figured out the bad radio was causing the Check Control message every time i would tamper with the wires while the battery is connected.
I'mthinking since the SRS light is flashing this could be causing limp mode.
I had removed the airbag and steering wheel, inspected everything. Seems like its all perfect condition.
I replaced the "park brake" light with the bad left turn signal indicator light inside the cluster and now the Odometer is not illuminated anymore :P

I have the same problem. Original instrument cluster problem BMW E32 1988: - Speed, RPM gauges and bulbs working.
- Fuel, temp, fuel economy and digi displays not working.
Tried to fix: I heated BMW instrument cluster with hair dryer from the back for long time and got digi displays and gauges working. But when I removed battery cable, then digi displays again not working. 5 capacitors checked to be working. But seems like capacitor issue. Impossible to heat components one by one because you have to close the panels before you can see if issue was solved or not. Some extra wiring maybe would be needed so that panels could be open while heating. Still trying to find final solution.
Video sorry only in Finnish http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=85KTS9saPA8
I would replace all capacitors, especially because you have the old cluster with the grey backplate.

SRS flashing, means SRS(airbag) might just need to be reset.....
I caused that on mine when I pulled the steering wheel to get cluster out.
To reset the SRS/Airbag light a special tool is required, there is no trick. For this I have the tool for the older cars like E32

Note, all reset tools sold meanwhile, 06/2019

Same problem here .. I have a 1990 BMW 750il..my check engine light comes on at start ..when I rev it it goes off..my gauges not working code center jumping threw me a "??> " looked like writing in a tomb in egypt
Maybe 2 different problems. For the CEL light do a stomp test https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...e-pedal-faults
Did you ever check distributors, distributor rotors, fuel pressure? Also the throttle valves might be dirty http://www.mwrench.com/Whitepapers/DKMotorcleanup.pdf
Cluster: capacitors http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Mainte...Capacitors.htm
