You guys are so funny ...
I started detailing the car Sunday evening for BimmerFest East. It's been so long since I've done it (you know, fixing the car instead of driving it). I fully expect the paint alone is going to take around 20 hours.
I have a few more small sections to go until I'm finished stage 1. I'm cutting with a medium cut pad (orange autogeek) and Meguiars 105 ultra cut compound. I know this isn't typical FI posts, but maybe someone will find it interesting.
Hard work definitely pays off! Keep it up!

2011 Pierce 75' Quint - Fire Apparatus West Islip FD
Yep, pretty much the same method.
Here's what I plan on doing:
Clay Bar - 2 times
Meguiars 105 - 6 slow passes
Meguiars 205 - 4 or 6 fast passes depending on what it needs
Meguiars 20 Synthetic Sealant - most likely 2 coats depending on how it lays
Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax - single final coat
I'm beginning to realize that I'm spoiled having a lift in my garage. No longer do I have to hunch over, etc. to detail. I can just raise / lower the lift as necessary to get the panel at chest height.
First stage is now complete and I hand polished the wheels a bit too.

So who will be stopping by to say hi at BimmerFest East?!?

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see and chat with me today. I love talking to enthusiasts about both Mindy and differentials. It was great seeing some old faces and talking with some new guys. I'll apologize now if I forget your name / face as I'm terrible with both. There's a bunch of stuff popping up on instagram, etc. already and I'll share when I find it.
I did take the car all the way and back on ethanol. I'm glad I packed 15 gallons in the hatch as we needed 10 to make it home.
For those wondering fuel mileage on E85, here's the calculations. Note that we were running the A/C full bore the whole time and I did mess around a bit with Mark and others on the way up. It's just so hard to keep off the torque pedal
Starting Mileage Per Odometer: 55,555
Ending Mileage Per Odometer: 55,788
Mileage Correction Factor (due to oversized tires): 1.039
Total Mileage: 242.09
Total Gallons Consumed: 15.997
Total Effective MPG: 15.13
Local Market Price Per Gallon: $3.699
Cost Per Mile: $.2444
Twenty-five cents a mile to drive around a race car? I'll take it. LoL.
On other news, my right axle is about to give up the ghost. It's making a horrible noise now and starting to bind. Considering how many full bore runs that are on it, it's no surprise. I need to start shopping for a set of OEM replacements. If anyone has or knows of a set of OEM Z3M axles (or just one for that matter), please email me.
Have a great weekend!
Why not send the axles out to get built by dss?

I spent 2+ years trying to get half-shafts made by a number of other vendors that would hold up. It was a very disappointing experience, I ended up back at DSS. (When I first contacted them, they refused to take on my project)
If you've found another option, I'd be very interested in knowing about it. Some vendors held my half-shafts for months with empty promises; maybe I can give you a tip.
spending $1000 on getting my M Coupe axles built by DSS is some of the best money I ever spent on my car this is the third season and not one broken axle with a consistent 1.3 sec 60 ft times. it is definitely worth the money.
