The letter from PTG for trunk kit:
Other interesting document from dealership as I beleive
funny they say the X-brace is not legal for street use... and then the convertible M3 came out
wonder why the dual oil pump would void the warranty and all the precautions in checking every 2500 miles...

There used to be a bunch of this information in the track forum. We had battles and potential protests over stuff back in 2005 at SCCA Solo Nationals.
I have a bunch of this stuff... this will serve as a placeholder for when I can scan it tomorrow.

There's actually an explanation for that. BMW never certified (i.e., tested, EPA and FMVSS) any E36 M3 coupe or sedan with the X-brace for the U.S. market. Only the convertibles. And because that item was offered on a US production vehicle, we (owners of the coupe or sedan) could actually order then here in the U.S. You'll notice that we were never able to order the strut brace however because it was never offered on any production car and therefore not certified. I realize some slipped through the cracks and others were brought in by vendors etc... but these were the exceptions. Good for me I guess since I own one.
My guess about the oil pump is that BMW probably thought the only people that would actually go through the trouble of fitting the dual setup would be the track/race guys. They obviously underestimated the handful of psycho BMW guys.
Can you share where you got this information?

Ok I should have been more specific. The same "basic" design.
The 234 brace is not specific to the LTW. It's just the brace they had around the time of production. In fact there are a total of six (6) braces dating back to 1993 each of which have been superseded until the current model.
Not that this matters but here's the info in case anyone is interested.
0 51 71 8 410 212 CROSS REINFORCEMENT
1 51 71 8 201 234 CROSS REINFORCEMENT 22.10.1997
2 51 71 4 202 997 CROSS REINFORCEMENT 25.10.1995
3 51 71 2 261 798 CROSS REINFORCEMENT 27.03.1996
4 51 71 8 184 455 CROSS MEMBER FRONT 24.08.1994
5 51 71 8 165 650 CROSS MEMBER FRONT 12.11.1993
I don't have any pics of the older designs.
Come to think of it the "old" x brace might even be part number 997 but I don't remember anything in between.

So there were 2 of us that were almost protested at the 2005 Solo Nationals because we removed the sound deadening from the rear seat area. Apparently, the first 12 didn't have it, but later versions were just white non-sunroof cars pulled from the assembly line. None of it was documented, but just curious if your car has the deadening or not...

Lot's of cool stuff Jim!
So you confirmed for me that the x brace that came with the LTW is the 234 part which is identical to the latest version except for the tab. The other older unit pictured above must be the 997 unit or even older.
The CSL Support manual is attached in my post above.
Of all the cool things you posted, I vote for the RCj sitting quietly under the x brace.
I never asked you but do you have a set of gurney flaps for the GT wing?
Just fantastic! Thanks a LOT for posting that. Could you please share the scans from that magazines. I would love to read these articles.

I don't have much to add, but I do have a genuine LTW wing that I learned a bunch about. Since we are sharing parts...
The PTG hand cut third brake light into the GT wing. Total crap quality, but that's what owners were given!
And on my wing the last 4 digits of the original cars VIN was there under the original double sided tape. Partly my fault for the loss of clarity, but it was car 7222 if I recall correctly. A dealer friend and I found the car and VHR

By BMW production standards it certainly is crap. But by BMW race standards, it is perfectly acceptable and even expected. If I'm a lightweight owner (total opposite actually ), then I'd argue it actually adds to the car's authenticity as more of a race intended vehicle than a street vehicle.
You'd need what people commonly refer to as the GT 2 wing if you want a nicely integrated production wing.
Same goes for the risers which had awful finish on them yet PTG just had them painted as is without sanding them down to match the original orange peel.

Oh I know Jim. I agree it totally adds to the authenticity. I just wanted people to see how unpolished the car was. I'll add the riser pics too now that you mention it.
Fully aware of the GT Class 2 wing, it is my favorite and preferred part. Unfortunately it is NLA and of course you have one.
