328i coupe wont rev past 5000 rpm

Hi folks just put a 328 into my 316 chassis runs and drives fine untill 5000rpm then limits I've changed the fuel pump checked for vac leaks can't find anything I know the 328 was fine in the donor it won't connect to diagnostics either but has all relevant power supply as continuity tested every pin back to the ecu and same on the wiring loom so everything is right just doesn't make sense any help would be appreciated what does the second plug control on the 328 loom aswell

Did you wire X6000 pin 15 to get the vehicle speed from the ASC/ABS unit? See section 1210.17 in the 1998 BMW ETM.

A 328i needs an ASC/ABS wheel speed to detect rough road and not confuse it with a misfiring engine. It also uses the signal to limit the top vehicle speed in North America. Without it, the DME must be more conservative with the engine. Try wiring up the signal – if it isn't – and see if that removes the apparent rev limit.

I'd suggest you team up with someone who is good with BMW motors and electronics. You probably first need to research what wiring to change and add, along with the possible coding you might have to do of the DME if it doesn't match the car.

Here, for example, is some of the wiring that may be missing or need alteration if your car has ASC:

Fixed now swapped the pins over in the x20 plug so pin 9 met with 14 on the c101 runs like a dream

just reading forum here and i have a similar problem it is an e46 328 wont rev over 5000rpm with an engine fault sayin asc signal which i am aware is the vehicle speed. the abs light is on but i can not read faults in the abs module i was just wondering does anyone now how i could get the engine rmodule to recieve a reading as this is a track car and i am not bothered about light on dash. the abs module has both live feed and earth. does anyone know if the abs module is coded?

I vaguely recall this could be a cluster issue. You went from 4 cylinders to 6, but are limited to 2/3 the rpm. Something needs to know you have 6 cylinders now. Sorry, that is all I know.
