You can use BMW Scanner v1.4 to add/remove keys I believe. I remember seeing the menu for that and the keys listed but haven't personally messed with it.
yes that's what i meant. With INPA when you open EWS module you have access to ISN code so gpeterson is probably able to add this feature.

Like Bram said with BMW scanner you can only enable/disable keys. But if the EWS can have up to 10 keys, there is probably a way to add them.

I finally found that my engine wasn't grounded and finally have the car cranking. I'm not sure if I have fuel/spark yet, but I thought I'd double-check this, too.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with the log file.

Ok - missing ground makes sense. EWS will kill the starter on its own if there is a key/transponder issue, DME will kill fuel/spark if EWS doesn't send it the correct bits.

The log file is for me to make sure I'm interpreting the ISN correctly. I just ran some tests and it looks good.

Do you have INPA working? If so, you can easily check DME faults, see if my app didn't properly sync EWS.

If you arced the stater to frame I would start with checking fuses if you haven't already done so.

that was the first thing i did. i ripped apart the whole car to check every single fues, than checked all relays and replaced them all, and than made sure all grounds were good.

I struggled for a long time to get INPA working, but my laptop is winning the fight by resisting. It got so bad that I had to system restore and a stupid antivirus quarantined an INPA .exe file and refused to put in back. I was able to us a borrowed code reader, though.

I finally bought a DME off ebay for $30.00 and it synced immediately and works.
Finally having this car running is a great feeling

    Thanks!

What version od EWS will this work with? I have just tried on my 2007 E60, it recognises the COM port but when I press Read ISN from DME nothing happens.

Sorry, should have been more specific - definitely won't work on anything that new. Should work on OBDII e36, early e39, possibly others.

I and trying to sync a 1996 328i EWS with Siemens MS41.1. I just received the 20 pin to 16 pin and from your mention in another post there should be continuity from pin 16 to OBD pin 1, no continuity so I proceeded with some tools and exposed pin 1 connector and soldered a wire from there to pin 16. I also have an OBD Link SX Multiprotocol OBD ll Scan Tool, will this work or do I need something else. I know just enough about this technology to be dangerous. That means if there are instructions...I can proceed.

OBDII scan tool won't work as it does protocol conversion. The vagcom cable will send raw bytes between PC & k-line which is what we need here.

    -requires .NET Framework 2.0

    Usage:
-connect your vagcom cable to your PC and car via BMW 20-pin adapter
    -turn ignition on
    -run app
-select COM port that corresponds to your vagcom cable
-press "Read ISN from DME"... if successful you will see the ISN listed and the "Write ISN to EWS" button will be enabled
-press "Write ISN to EWS"... if successful it will tell you to turn off ignition for 15 sec

It would be great if someone could give it a try. I accept no responsibility if it leaves you with un-synced EWS, so please do so at your own risk. It would be nice if testers already had un-synced EWS (nothing to lose) and/or already have other tools to sync EWS in case my app doesn't work. Once others have confirmed it works well I'll make it a bit more polished.

I am using a VAGCOM kkl 409.1 and the 20 to 16 adapter. When I open the app nothing happens after clicking Read ISN from DME
ISN Unknown. Am I doing anything wrong or is it in my cables?

ISN UNKNOWN. Am I doing something wrong or is it my cables? I attempting this on a 1996 328i with an ECU Seimens MS41.1 with every number matching except vin.

Are you sure the com port selected is the vagcom adapter?

When I plugged the VAGCOM into my computer it started to download drivers and selected Com 4 and that is what comes up when I open your app, com 4 is the only one listed on drop down menu. When I select Com 4 theRead button is enabled and that is as far as it goes. When I turned off the ignition yor app functioned the same I could click it and it would blink and then noting. So it looks like it is not reading the ignition...now I'm lost.

Is there a log file that was created in the same folder as the .exe? Your key is in the run position, correct?

Yes , in run position. It really seems like it is not getting ignition signal. I am just not knowledgeable enough to pursue this on my own. I found a small firm in Southern Illinois that will sync my ecu replacement from original. They only charge $60.00 plus postage. I think I'm on my way to the post Office tomorrow. Thanx for trying to help, I appreciate it very much.

Before you send it out you may want to install INPA and see if your DME is working at all.

Is there any way to "zero" the dme so that it works with any ews car ?
how do the ews delete chips work?
