I migged the wastegate closed, and a V-band onto my HX40, never had an issue. Either way you will be fine, your welding two pieces of metal together.

Very nice. Can't wait to see this completed.

Mike was out west at the meet, probably not having the forum as his first priority....

Thanks guys. I do need to Tig the shiz. Mike texted me, he said to do the pipe out of mild, PRE heat, and use a special rod. That is definitely one of the methods I have read. I'll do some practicing on some extra cast I have sitting around. Mike is tending his flock nicely, even on the sabbath.

Lol, who knows, maybe he is 7th day adven. My sabbath at least. Thanks mike!! Before I weld on the turbine housing, I need chop up my down pipe and get it back in there to see how it's all going to fit. There is definitely enough room, excited to figure out the wastegate dump back into the exhaust. It will likely involve a self made splice/increaser.

Cam, I can't believe how close to a twin scroll your manifold is. Its just waiting for a divider!! More than anything, I am more excited to see what your going to do next. When I get back to driving my car on a normal basis I am going to see where I stand with it. It may be time to pass it along. It would be fun to try something new. It would be amazing to have car that would pass local smog in the form of a e46m3, and have more room for the kiddies. It would be awesome to be able to afford another car, Maybe a e46M3 vert for the wife with the new Radowski power maker on it on flex fuel. Honestly, my real hope is that someone like Mike figures out the e90/92 chassis. Its about time someone dialed in a turbo kit for that motor. With turbo's, sky would be the limit. 1200 hp wouldn't even be trying on a 4 liter that revs out to 8200. For me, Hopefully this year is a good one for business, its about time. Hope your killing it down in so cal!

I would love an insiders perspective. Information please.

Thank you. As we get older we tend to go for what is more OEM/tame/comfortable/street friendly/stress friendly. The e46 m3 and MaxPSI kit is perfect for that. I only wish the e46 m3 came in 4-door. I am also hoping that Mike will jump on the e90 m3 with Nick. That would be the ticket right there. Quite the daily driver with child seats in rear and cold A/C all around with lotsa comfort don't ya think?
Luke did buy a newer M3 you know that right?
Wasn't because he was bored of the V8 in the M5......

Got some things done this weekend.
I modified the down pipe to the new turbo placement. I cut it off right at a previous weld so I had two halves to work with and see where things were at. Well, the down pipe had to rotate a bit, and at a slightly different angle, but if it wasn't for the o2 sensor bung, I wouldn't have noticed. I need to put another one it because it rotated to the vertical about 10 degrees, and now hits the unibody. I cut out a small bit, about 3/8" and then beveled the down pipe and it fit perfect. Only took about a hour to cut up, fine tune the fit, and tig weld.
Laying on my back, I look at things all back together trying to see what to do next, and what approach to do next. The fact that wastegates act as a 90 degree elbow, I tried to thing what would be best. in this pic, the existing 60mm flange for the HKS wastegate is there, along with the 1 3/4 elbow, flared to 2", and then ties into the exhaust.
I then cut off the HKS flange so that it can be reused (or sold) complete.
The elbow was too large for the outlet flange of the new tial 38 WG. So, I thought, I could waste another week and order a taper, or just go for it....Mind that I have never tried or knew how to do anything like this:
Wastegate one done. Now for the next one:
A plasma cut and dremel nets this:
Figured that it would be good to have a scoop in there for this one to make sure gases go the right direction (hey, I had a elbow sitting around):
2 hours later, and one warped tial flange, cut it off, put a new one on, and getting my ass kicked tig welding in tight spaces (major props to the pro's out there, I have a great appreciation for what you do!) Finally:
Back in for mock up of the turbine to wastegate connection:
Note, you can see the holes in the turbine, and the wastegate inlets in the shot:
I am spent, but very excited about the results. Fitment is great, with plenty of room to service everything. Everything will be v banded (right after the turbo, and before/after the wg's) for easy servicing.
After talking to Mike R. the pipe welded to the turbine needs to me mild, so I just need to find some, that should be easy.
Overall, this setup is going to be so much easier to work on and take apart than the previous setup.
Happy Memorial Day, I am going to take a break tomorrow and hit the ridge trail up american fork canyon on the mountain bikes with flexer (it opened this weekend).

^ wow man nice work. Looks complicated but well thought out and clean.
Damn. Real deal ingenuity.

Competent people are working on it; it's not their first time doing something like this.
I suspect we'll start to see development information leaked in about 6 months.

I have spend a bit of time in a Hefner tt r8 4.2 v8. It was a base kit, and it was a blast until the heat soak hit. Super mild though. I don't know if Hefner or underground offer stages on the v8, most just mod the v10. It would be interesting to see the potential on stock compression ratio, and different fuel grades. Much more affordable and practical platform. I love the body style.
