Not the spaghetti decoder version that gave pics. The other one sucks, hard to navigate and no pictures of connectors.

You're clearly more handy with bmwplanet than I.
I'm not sure I understand why people are grounding the DME relay. People have stated that relay powers 4 other relays, but i dont see it. I plan on running a separate fuel pump relay anyway and I don't see what else it really powers that I need. I assume the start signal wire and key on power works without the DME relay powered. During the week I am unable to devote the time needed to wire trace, but Saturday I hope to jump in!
You don't need a separate relay for the fuel pump . The dme relay does power up a few niter things.

Yes, but instead of installing 2+ relays to turn on the DME relay, install one fuel pump relay.
The most un-obtrusive, easiest, least connections is converting polarity to switch on the dme and fuel pump relays. Doing this also lets you use the on-board fuse holder in the e-box without additional wiring. There's the easy way and then there's the hard way. 2 extra relays doesn't scare me. There really isn't a wrong way to do it as long as everything works, right?

The only reason I am using a different fuel pump relay is because I am using the aeromotive 340 pump and want bigger wires going to it.
I started on some minor wiring today, specifically the starter signal wire (12V+ when key is turned to "start" position.
Found some conflicting information. Initially I looked at the wiring diagram for the starter circuit on bmw-planet WDS.
X6056 is the one I think I need to tap.
Pin 2
WDS says it looks like this:
However, mine is nothing like that. I have the DME ME 7.2 system, and WDS did not list that system for the starter circuit diagram.
Here's what I think is the correct one, and its location in the e-box:
I probed some of those red wires in the last few pictures looking for 12V while my fiancee turned the key to start, on, and off. They all registered 12V when the key was "on", and I don't think they gave me 12V when it was at "Start". I don't want to wire this thing wrong to where the starter spins as soon as the key is to "on". Anyone have input?
In my Ebox, there was a 10 or 12 pin (large pins, not the micro pins) clear or white translucent connector that had all the power connections in it. I just used those after figuring out what they were with the test light.

Today I was going to add pins to my cluster for tach and CEL. Pulled the cluster...3 connectors. Everything thing that everyone has told me, there are 2 connectors. Pulled up bmw-planet, not a single mention of 3 connectors. Sent a message to Brandon who also has a 99 car, 2 connectors on his too... Wtf
The cluster with 3 connectors is the IKE, or "high" cluster. The 2 plug cluster is the KOM, or "low" cluster. There should be both listed in WDS.
The cluster has all the pins already, you have to add pins to the wired side of the plug...

The IKE shows a module on the back which mine doesn't have
know the pins are already in the cluster, I meant add pins to the connector. Worded it wrong.

If you have only 2 connectors you don't have the IKE cluster, you have the KOM cluster.

I'm still lost...

on what?
I stopped by the junkyard over the weekend and clipped a few cluster pigtails from some mid 90s E32s and E36s. I'll probably de-pin a few of those later this week and insert into the existing cluster harness plug.
How do you get the CEL light to work? I've ran through the pinouts but still can't find it...
Look under "Body electrical system" - information and displays -> indicators -> warning lamps. You have to look at the ancient e39's 12/95-9/98. I know it used a ground because I wired my PCM CEL directly to it, but can't remember if I had to add a pin and recode for it or not.
