235/40/17 is a factory fitment for the E36 chassis.

your car came with that tire size on it's front wheels - 17x7.5

    you'll be fine.

    I'm pretty sure the stock 95 M3 sizes 235/40R17 on a 7.5"?

I believe that's what I'm running on all corners in S02s.

The question is what are you running on the back...as long as your overall diameters aren't off that much (front to back) you shouldn't have any problems. Width differences are fine.

    FYI:

95 M3 OE tires were 235/40/17 all around even though the wheels were staggared.

You have to be careful, tire sizes are not very consistant across manufacturers. I can tell you from experience the same size tire in goodyear and hoosier was almost 1/2" different in diameter .

very true - but also consider that goodyears run extremly narrow and hoosier's run very wide.

my guess on the hoosiers running wider is cause they are racing tires (something you will NOT be normally running on the street). as race tires, their listed size is fudged a little to keep you in your class etc.

    FYI,

95s didn't come with a staggered rim setup, that came in 96+. (unless some very late model 95s did)

Mine, build date 9/95 were 7.5 all around.

    Thanks.

    Mike,

a friend of mine has a '95 M3 with the original wheels still on it (forged lightweights). they are 7.5" up front and 8.5" in the rear.

is it possible that the different wheel designs were sold in different setups?

If they're the lightweight rims then that's a diff story. (not your typical OE for the standard 95) Those came in staggered even though the same sized rubber for the earlier models. (I never did understand why they would change the rim stagger without changing the tires...)

Stock 95 rims were typically the flat 10 spoke "BMW Motorosport" engraved painted rims.

    Thanks.
